And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which[ is] Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother’s fury turn away;Until thy brother’s anger turn away from thee, and he forget[ that] which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?

And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these[ were] confederate with Abram.

So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.

And they gave them the city of Arba the father of Anak, which[ city is] Hebron, in the hill[ country] of Judah, with the suburbs thereof round about it.

And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims[ were] there, and[ that] the cities[ were] great[ and] fenced: if so be the LORD[ will be] with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.And the name of Hebron before[ was] Kirjatharba;[ which Arba was] a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.

And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.

Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we[ are] thy bone and thy flesh.

And his men that[ were] with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.

And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
