后来耶和华在幔利的橡树那里向亚伯拉罕显现。那时是白天最热的时候，亚伯拉罕正坐在帐篷的入口。

撒拉死在迦南地的基列-阿尔巴，就是希伯仑；亚伯拉罕前来为撒拉哀恸哭泣。

我儿啊，现在你当听我的话；起来！逃往哈兰，到我哥哥拉班那里去，与他一同住些日子，直到你哥哥的怒火消退了——等到你哥哥对你的怒气转消了，忘记你对他所做的事，那时我就会派人把你从那里接回来。我为什么在一天之内要丧失你们两个呢？”

有一个逃脱的人来告诉希伯来人亚伯兰，那时他正居住在亚摩利人幔利的橡树那里；幔利是以实革和亚乃的兄弟，他们是亚伯兰的盟友。

于是以撒打发雅各前往巴旦-亚兰，到亚兰人彼土利的儿子拉班那里。拉班是雅各和以扫的母亲莉白加的哥哥。
