Then God said to Jacob,“ Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”

Then God said to Jacob,“ Go up to Bethel and live there. Build an altar there to honor me. That’s where I appeared to you when you were running away from your brother Esau.”

God said to Jacob,“ Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there. Make an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

Then God said to Jacob,“ Get ready and move to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother, Esau.”

God said to Jacob,“ Get up! Go to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

Then God said to Jacob,“ Arise, go up to Bethel and live there, and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Beth- el, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, who appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.

God said to Jacob,“ Get up! Go to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

他從南地起程繼續往伯特利去，到了伯特利和艾之間，就是他先前支搭帳篷的地方，也是他原先造祭壇的地方。亞伯蘭就在那裡呼求耶和華的名。

以掃因父親祝福了雅各，就怨恨雅各。以掃對自己說：「為父親舉哀的日子臨近了，之後我就要殺死弟弟雅各。」當大兒子以掃的話傳到莉百加那裡，她就派人把小兒子雅各叫來，說：「看哪，你哥哥以掃想要殺你洩恨！我兒啊，現在你當聽我的話；起來！逃往哈蘭，到我哥哥拉班那裡去，與他一同住些日子，直到你哥哥的怒火消退了——等到你哥哥對你的怒氣轉消了，忘記你對他所做的事，那時我就會派人把你從那裡接回來。我為什麼在一天之內要喪失你們兩個呢？」

他為我們揀選了繼業，就是他所愛的雅各的榮耀。細拉

就問：「撒萊的婢女夏甲，你從哪裡來，要到哪裡去呢？」夏甲說：「我是從我的主母撒萊面前逃出來的。」

他在那裡築了一座祭壇，稱那地方為伊利-伯特利，因為他逃避他哥哥的時候，神曾在那裡向他顯現。

他又從那裡遷移到伯特利東邊的山地，並支搭帳篷；帳篷的西邊是伯特利，東邊是艾。他在那裡也為耶和華築了一座祭壇，呼求耶和華的名。

耶和華對雅各說：「你當回到你祖先之地，回到你的本族，我必與你同在。」

你向神許了願，償還不可遲延，因為神不喜歡愚昧人；你所許的願應當償還。不許願，好過許了願卻不償還。不要任你的口使自己犯罪，也不要在使者面前說所許的願是個錯誤。為什麼要使神因你的聲音發怒而毀了你手所做的呢？

亞伯拉罕給那地方起名為「耶和華以勒」；因此直到今天，人們還說：「在耶和華的山上必有預備。」

雅各離開比爾-謝巴，往哈蘭去。他到了一個地方，因為太陽西沉，就在那裡過夜。他就地拿了一塊石頭，放在自己頭底下，就在那地方躺下睡了。他做了一個夢：看哪，有一個梯子矗立在地，它的頂端直通到天！看哪，梯子上，神的使者們上下往來！看哪，耶和華站在梯子上方，說：「我是耶和華，你父親亞伯拉罕的神、以撒的神。我必把你現在躺臥之地，賜給你和你的後裔。你的後裔必如同地上的塵土；你必向東南西北擴展；地上萬族都必因你和你的後裔而蒙福。看哪，我與你同在！你無論往哪裡去，我都會保守你，並且要把你帶回這地。我必不離棄你，直到成就了我對你所說的。」雅各從睡眠中醒過來，說：「耶和華確實在這地方，我竟然不知道！」他就害怕起來，說：「這地方真可畏！這裡一定是神的殿，天的門。」雅各清早起來，拿起放在他頭底下的那塊石頭，立作柱子，在它上頭澆了油。他就給那地方起名為伯特利；不過那城先前名叫路斯。然後雅各許了一個願說：「如果耶和華與我同在，在我所行的這路上保守我，又賜給我糧食吃、衣服穿，並讓我平平安安地回到我的父家，那麼耶和華就是我的神。我立作柱子的這塊石頭將成為神的殿；凡你所賜給我的，我必把十分之一獻給你。」
