God said to Jacob,“ Get up! Go to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

Then God said to Jacob,“ Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”

Then God said to Jacob,“ Go up to Bethel and live there. Build an altar there to honor me. That’s where I appeared to you when you were running away from your brother Esau.”

God said to Jacob,“ Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there. Make an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

Then God said to Jacob,“ Get ready and move to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother, Esau.”

Then God said to Jacob,“ Arise, go up to Bethel and live there, and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

Then God said to Jacob,“ Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”

And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Beth- el, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, who appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.

God said to Jacob,“ Get up! Go to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.

Then God said to Jacob,“ Go up at once to Bethel and live there. Make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

God said to Jacob,“ Arise, go up to Bethel, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”

The LORD will indeed vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants when he sees that their strength is gone and no one is left— slave or free.

Jacob struggled with the angel and prevailed; he wept and sought his favor. He found him at Bethel, and there he spoke with him.

When he calls out to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor.

I am the God of Bethel, where you poured oil on the stone marker and made a solemn vow to me. Get up, leave this land, and return to your native land.’”

God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.

He went by stages from the Negev to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had formerly been,to the site where he had built the altar. And Abram called on the name of the LORD there.

Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. And Esau determined in his heart,“ The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”When the words of her older son Esau were reported to Rebekah, she summoned her younger son Jacob and said to him,“ Listen, your brother Esau is consoling himself by planning to kill you.So now, my son, listen to me. Flee at once to my brother Laban in Haran,and stay with him for a few days until your brother’s anger subsides—until your brother’s rage turns away from you and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send for you and bring you back from there. Why should I lose you both in one day?”

He chooses for us our inheritance— the pride of Jacob, whom he loves. Selah

He said,“ Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?” She replied,“ I’m running away from my mistress Sarai.”

Jacob built an altar there and called the place El-bethel because it was there that God had revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother.

From there he moved on to the hill country east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. He built an altar to the LORD there, and he called on the name of the LORD.

The LORD said to him,“ Go back to the land of your ancestors and to your family, and I will be with you.”

When you make a vow to God, don’t delay fulfilling it, because he does not delight in fools. Fulfill what you vow.Better that you do not vow than that you vow and not fulfill it.Do not let your mouth bring guilt on you, and do not say in the presence of the messenger that it was a mistake. Why should God be angry with your words and destroy the work of your hands?

And Abraham named that place The LORD Will Provide, so today it is said,“ It will be provided on the LORD’s mountain.”

When Pharaoh heard about this, he tried to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in the land of Midian, and sat down by a well.

Jacob left Beer-sheba and went toward Haran.He reached a certain place and spent the night there because the sun had set. He took one of the stones from the place, put it there at his head, and lay down in that place.And he dreamed: A stairway was set on the ground with its top reaching the sky, and God’s angels were going up and down on it.The LORD was standing there beside him, saying,“ I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your offspring the land on which you are lying.Your offspring will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out toward the west, the east, the north, and the south. All the peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.Look, I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. I will bring you back to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he said,“ Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.”He was afraid and said,“ What an awesome place this is! This is none other than the house of God. This is the gate of heaven.”Early in the morning Jacob took the stone that was near his head and set it up as a marker. He poured oil on top of itand named the place Bethel, though previously the city was named Luz.Then Jacob made a vow:“ If God will be with me and watch over me during this journey I’m making, if he provides me with food to eat and clothing to wear,and if I return safely to my father’s family, then the LORD will be my God.This stone that I have set up as a marker will be God’s house, and I will give to you a tenth of all that you give me.”

Look to the mountains— the feet of the herald, who proclaims peace. Celebrate your festivals, Judah; fulfill your vows. For the wicked one will never again march through you; he will be entirely wiped out.
