你起來，叫人民潔淨自己為聖，對他們說：「你們要潔淨自己為聖，以備明天；因為永恆主以色列的上帝這麼說：以色列啊，你們中間有該被毁滅歸神之物；非等到你們使該被毁滅歸神之物離開你們中間，你們在仇敵面前、就立不住。

但是以色列人在該被毁滅歸神之物上犯了不忠實的罪；猶大支派中謝拉的曾孫、撒底的孫子、迦米的兒子亞干、取了該被毁滅歸神之物，永恆主就向以色列人發怒。
