They said to them,“ We can’t do such a thing; we can’t give our sister to a man who is not circumcised. That would be a disgrace to us.

They said to them,“ We can’t do it. We can’t give our sister to a man who isn’t circumcised. That would bring shame on us.

They said to them,“ We couldn’t possibly allow this, because you’re not circumcised. It would be a disgrace for our sister to marry a man like you!

“ We cannot do this thing,” they said to them.“ Giving our sister to an uncircumcised man is a disgrace to us.

He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well,

And at the end of four years Absalom said to the king,“ Please let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to the Lord, in Hebron.

And David said to the men who stood by him,“ What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
