像是憂傷的，卻總是快樂；像是貧窮的，卻使許多人富足；像是一無所有，卻是樣樣都有。

因為操練身體，益處還少；但是敬神，對一切的事都有益處，有今生和來生的應許。

所以誰都不要以人誇耀；要知道，一切都屬於你們：

「主人就對奴僕說：『出去，到大街和小巷上去，強求人進來，好坐滿我的房子。

所以，我認為必須鼓勵這些弟兄先到你們那裡去，把你們已經許諾的惠贈提前安排好，這樣就表明你們所預備好的就是惠贈，而不是被強取的。又有這話：播撒吝嗇的人，也收穫吝嗇；播撒祝福的人，也收穫祝福。

我這樣說，並不是因為我缺少什麼；事實上，我已經學會了在任何情況下都知足。我知道怎樣處卑賤，也知道怎樣處豐富；在一切事上，在一切情況下，或飽足、或飢餓，或豐富、或缺乏，我都得了祕訣。

那天晚上，雅各就在那裡過夜。他從自己所擁有的東西中，選出給哥哥以掃的禮物：母山羊兩百隻，公山羊二十隻，母綿羊兩百隻，公綿羊二十隻，哺乳的駱駝三十頭和牠們的幼崽，母牛四十頭，公牛十頭，母驢二十頭，公驢十頭；分成一群一群的，交在僕人們手中，對他們說：「你們要在我前面先過去，使群和群之間保持一段距離。」他吩咐領頭的僕人說：「我哥哥以掃遇見你的時候，如果問你：『你的主人是誰？你要到哪裡去？在你前面的這些牲畜是誰的？』你就回答：『是你僕人雅各的，是送給我主以掃的禮物。看哪，他自己也在我們後面。』」他又吩咐第二個、第三個和所有跟在各群後面的僕人說：「你們遇見以掃的時候，也要這樣對他說，並強調說：『看哪，你的僕人雅各在我們後面。』」因為雅各想：「我先藉著在我前面先送去的禮物與他和解，然後再與他見面，或許他會接納我。」

於是雅各變得極其昌盛，擁有許多羊群、婢女、男僕、駱駝和驢子。

以掃說：「弟弟，我已經有很多了，你把你的留給自己吧！」

那麼，對這些事我們要怎麼說呢？神如果支持我們，誰還能反對我們呢？神既然沒有顧惜自己的兒子，為我們所有的人捨棄了他，難道不會把萬有也連同他一起賜給我們嗎？

大衛回到洗革拉，把一部分戰利品送給他的朋友——猶大的長老們，說：「看哪，這是給你們的禮物，是從耶和華的仇敵奪來的戰利品。」
