像是忧伤的，却总是快乐；像是贫穷的，却使许多人富足；像是一无所有，却是样样都有。

因为操练身体，益处还少；但是敬神，对一切的事都有益处，有今生和来生的应许。

所以谁都不要以人夸耀；要知道，一切都属于你们：

“主人就对奴仆说：‘出去，到大街和小巷上去，强求人进来，好坐满我的房子。

所以，我认为必须鼓励这些弟兄先到你们那里去，把你们已经许诺的惠赠提前安排好，这样就表明你们所预备好的就是惠赠，而不是被强取的。又有这话：播撒吝啬的人，也收获吝啬；播撒祝福的人，也收获祝福。

我这样说，并不是因为我缺少什么；事实上，我已经学会了在任何情况下都知足。我知道怎样处卑贱，也知道怎样处丰富；在一切事上，在一切情况下，或饱足、或饥饿，或丰富、或缺乏，我都得了秘诀。

那天晚上，雅各就在那里过夜。他从自己所拥有的东西中，选出给哥哥以扫的礼物：母山羊两百只，公山羊二十只，母绵羊两百只，公绵羊二十只，哺乳的骆驼三十只和它们的幼崽，母牛四十头，公牛十头，母驴二十匹，公驴十匹；分成一群一群的，交在仆人们手中，对他们说：“你们要在我前面先过去，使群和群之间保持一段距离。”他吩咐领头的仆人说：“我哥哥以扫遇见你的时候，如果问你：‘你的主人是谁？你要到哪里去？在你前面的这些牲畜是谁的？’你就回答：‘是你仆人雅各的，是送给我主以扫的礼物。看哪，他自己也在我们后面。’”他又吩咐第二个、第三个和所有跟在各群后面的仆人说：“你们遇见以扫的时候，也要这样对他说，并强调说：‘看哪，你的仆人雅各在我们后面。’”因为雅各想：“我先藉着在我前面先送去的礼物与他和解，然后再与他见面，或许他会接纳我。”

于是雅各变得极其昌盛，拥有许多羊群、婢女、男仆、骆驼和驴子。

以扫说：“弟弟，我已经有很多了，你把你的留给自己吧！”

那么，对这些事我们要怎么说呢？神如果支持我们，谁还能反对我们呢？神既然没有顾惜自己的儿子，为我们所有的人舍弃了他，难道不会把万有也连同他一起赐给我们吗？

大卫回到洗革拉，把一部分战利品送给他的朋友——犹大的长老们，说：“看哪，这是给你们的礼物，是从耶和华的仇敌夺来的战利品。”
