He instructed them:“ This is what you are to say to my lord Esau:‘ Your servant Jacob says, I have been staying with Laban and have remained there till now.

Jacob told the messengers what to do. He said,“ Here’s what you must tell my master Esau.‘ Your servant Jacob says,“ I’ve been staying with Laban. I’ve remained there until now.

instructing them,“ Thus you shall say to my lord Esau: Thus says your servant Jacob,‘ I have sojourned with Laban and stayed until now.

He told them,“ Give this message to my master Esau:‘ Humble greetings from your servant Jacob. Until now I have been living with Uncle Laban,

He commanded them,“ You are to say to my lord Esau,‘ This is what your servant Jacob says. I have been staying with Laban and have been delayed until now.

He commanded them, saying,“ This is what you shall say to my lord Esau:‘ Your servant Jacob says the following:“ I have resided with Laban, and stayed until now;

And he commanded them, saying,“ Speak thus to my Lord Esau,‘ Thus your servant Jacob says:“ I have dwelt with Laban and stayed there until now.

And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye say unto my lord Esau: Thus saith thy servant Jacob, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed until now:

He commanded them, saying,“ This is what you shall tell my lord, Esau:‘ This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.

因為凡自高的必被降卑；自己謙卑的必被升高。』

柔和的回答使烈怒消退；傷人的話語能激起忿怒。

你就要說：「是你僕人雅各的，是送給我主以掃的禮物；看哪，他自己也在我們後邊呢。」』

就如撒拉那樣，她聽從亞伯拉罕，稱他為「主」。你們若行善，不怕任何讓你恐怖的事，就成為撒拉的兒女了。

於是他們就腰束麻布，頭套繩索，來見以色列王、說：『王的僕人便哈達說：「求王使我的性命存活着。」』亞哈說：『他還活着麼？他是我的盟兄弟！』

『我主請聽！你在我們中間是一位有神威的族長；你只管在我們最好的墳地埋葬你死了的親人；我們必沒有一個人不容你在他的墳地埋葬你死了的親人。』

以掃說：『我所遇見的這一整隊的牲畜，是甚麼意思啊？』雅各說：『是要求我主賞臉的。』

掃羅認出大衛的聲音來，就說：『我兒大衛、這是你的聲音麼？』大衛說：『我主我王啊，正是我的聲音。』

掌管者的怒氣若向你發作，你不要離開你的本位，因為柔順能和緩大過錯。

以撒回答以掃說：『看哪，我已經立他做你的主，已經把他的眾弟兄都給他做僕人，已經用五穀新酒資養他，我還能給你作甚麼呢，我兒？』

假使你行得對，哪有不抬起頭來的？你若行得不對，罪就伏在門前了；它渴想要引誘你，你卻可以管制它！』

願許多族之民服事你，願許多國之民向你下拜，願你做你弟兄的主，你母親的兒子向你下拜；凡咒詛你的、願他受咒詛；給你祝福的，願他受祝福。』

那麼弟子啊，你既入於你朋友的掌握中，就該這樣行，來解救你自己：你要去，火急切求你朋友。

亞倫說：『求我主不要生氣；你認識這人民，知道他們是一味作壞事的。

我有牛、驢、羊羣、僕婢；現在打發人來告訴我主，為要求賞賞臉。」』
