So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying,“ It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”

So Jacob named the place Peniel. He said,“ I saw God face to face. But I’m still alive!”

So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, saying,“ For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.”

And they saw the God of Israel: and[ there was] under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in[ his] clearness.And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.

And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.And the LORD said, Behold,[ there is] a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared[ him].

And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered[ him].

And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to[ give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he[ was] an angel of the LORD.And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city[ was called] Luz at the first.

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory,[ even] as by the Spirit of the Lord.

By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
