Do not provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, not even enough to put your foot on. I have given Esau the hill country of Seir as his own.

So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the flocks and herds before me and the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.”

Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan, and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob.Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock.So Esau( that is, Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir.This is the account of the family line of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir.

And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him;

The Lord had done the same for the descendants of Esau, who lived in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day.

So that day Esau started on his way back to Seir.

Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself,“ The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”When Rebekah was told what her older son Esau had said, she sent for her younger son Jacob and said to him,“ Your brother Esau is planning to avenge himself by killing you.

“ I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty.

“ Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.
