I want you to swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac.”

Fear the Lord your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name.

Some time later Abraham was told,“ Milkah is also a mother; she has borne sons to your brother Nahor:Uz the firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel( the father of Aram),Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph and Bethuel.”Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milkah bore these eight sons to Abraham’s brother Nahor.His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also had sons: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maakah.

They answered,“ We saw clearly that the Lord was with you; so we said,‘ There ought to be a sworn agreement between us’— between us and you. Let us make a treaty with youthat you will do us no harm, just as we did not harm you but always treated you well and sent you away peacefully. And now you are blessed by the Lord.”Isaac then made a feast for them, and they ate and drank.Early the next morning the men swore an oath to each other. Then Isaac sent them on their way, and they went away peacefully.

There above it stood the Lord, and he said:“ I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.

But Abram said to the king of Sodom,“ With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth,

I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.
