I did not bring you animals torn by wild beasts; I bore the loss myself. And you demanded payment from me for whatever was stolen by day or night.

I didn’t bring you animals torn apart by wild beasts. I made up for the loss myself. Also, you made me pay for anything stolen by day or night.

What was torn by wild beasts I did not bring to you. I bore the loss of it myself. From my hand you required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night.

If any were attacked and killed by wild animals, I never showed you the carcass and asked you to reduce the count of your flock. No, I took the loss myself! You made me pay for every stolen animal, whether it was taken in broad daylight or in the dark of night.

I did not bring you any of the flock torn by wild beasts; I myself bore the loss. You demanded payment from me for what was stolen by day or by night.

在伯利恆之野地裏有牧羊的人，夜間按着更次看守羊羣。

「你們要在我面前為聖潔的人。因此，田間被野獸撕裂牲畜的肉，你們不可吃，要丟給狗吃。」

自死的或是被野獸撕裂的，他不可吃，因此污穢自己。我是耶和華。

「人若將驢，或牛，或羊，或別的牲畜，交付鄰舍看守，牲畜或死，或受傷，或被趕去，無人看見，那看守的人要憑着耶和華起誓，手裏未曾拿鄰舍的物，本主就要罷休，看守的人不必賠還。牲畜若從看守的那裏被偷去，他就要賠還本主；若被野獸撕碎，看守的要帶來當作證據，所撕的不必賠還。

大衛對掃羅說：「你僕人為父親放羊，有時來了獅子，有時來了熊，從羣中啣一隻羊羔去。我就追趕牠，擊打牠，將羊羔從牠口中救出來。牠起來要害我，我就揪着牠的鬍子，將牠打死。

若是雇工，不是牧人，羊也不是他自己的，他看見狼來，就撇下羊逃走；狼抓住羊，趕散了羊羣。雇工逃走，因他是雇工，並不顧念羊。
