掃羅叫百姓起誓說，凡不等到晚上向敵人報完了仇吃甚麼的，必受咒詛。因此這日百姓沒有吃甚麼，就極其困憊。眾民進入樹林，見有蜜在地上。他們進了樹林，見有蜜流下來，卻沒有人敢用手取蜜入口，因為他們怕那誓言。約拿單沒有聽見他父親叫百姓起誓，所以伸手中的杖，用杖頭蘸在蜂房裏，轉手送入口內，眼睛就明亮了。百姓中有一人對他說：「你父親曾叫百姓嚴嚴地起誓說，今日吃甚麼的，必受咒詛；因此百姓就疲乏了。」約拿單說：「我父親連累你們了。你看，我嘗了這一點蜜，眼睛就明亮了。

現在你雖然想你父家，不得不去，為甚麼又偷了我的神像呢？」

說：「眾弟兄，請你們不要做這惡事。

拉班帶領他的眾弟兄去追趕，追了七日，在基列山就追上了。

你僕人中無論在誰那裏搜出來，就叫他死，我們也作我主的奴僕。」家宰說：「現在就照你們的話行吧！在誰那裏搜出來，誰就作我的奴僕；其餘的都沒有罪。」於是他們各人急忙把口袋卸在地下，各人打開口袋。家宰就搜查，從年長的起到年幼的為止，那杯竟在便雅憫的口袋裏搜出來。

當時拉班剪羊毛去了，拉結偷了她父親家中的神像。

這就免得有人因我們收的捐銀很多，就挑我們的不是。我們留心行光明的事，不但在主面前，就在人面前也是這樣。

我所差到你們那裏去的人，我藉着他們一個人佔過你們的便宜嗎？我勸了提多到你們那裏去，又差那位兄弟與他同去。提多佔過你們的便宜嗎？我們行事，不同是一個心靈嗎？不同是一個腳蹤嗎？你們到如今，還想我們是向你們分訴；我們本是在基督裏當神面前說話。親愛的弟兄啊，一切的事都是為造就你們。

以後你來查看我的工價，凡在我手裏的山羊不是有點有斑的，綿羊不是黑色的，那就算是我偷的；這樣便可證出我的公義來。」

亞伯蘭就對羅得說：「你我不可相爭，你的牧人和我的牧人也不可相爭，因為我們是骨肉。
