那一天，以色列人處境很窘迫，因為掃羅叫眾人起誓說：“不等到晚上，不等到我向敵人報了仇，就吃食物的，那人必受咒詛。”所以眾民都沒有嘗過食物。眾人進了樹林，林中地上有蜂蜜。他們進了樹林，看見有蜂蜜流出來，卻沒有人敢伸手取蜜入口，因為眾人都害怕所起的誓。約拿單沒有聽見他父親叫眾民所起的誓，所以伸出手中的杖，用杖頭蘸在蜂房裡，轉手送進口裡，他的眼睛就明亮了。眾民中有一個人說：“你父親曾經叫眾人嚴嚴地起誓說：‘今天吃食物的，那人必受咒詛。’所以眾人都疲乏了。”約拿單說：“我父親連累了這地的人。你們看！我嘗了這一點蜂蜜以後，我的眼睛就明亮了。

現在你既然渴想你的父家，一定要回去，為甚麼又偷我的神像呢？”

說：“我的弟兄們，請不要作惡。

拉班就帶著自己的眾兄弟追趕他，追了七日的路程，才在基列山把他們追上了。

在你僕人當中，無論在誰那裡搜出來，誰就要死，我們也要作我主的奴僕。”管家說：“現在就照你們的話作吧，只是在誰那裡搜出來，誰就要作我的奴僕，其餘的人都沒有罪。”於是，他們急忙把自己的布袋卸在地上，各人打開自己的布袋。管家就搜查，從最大的開始，查到最小的。那杯竟在便雅憫的布袋裡搜出來了。

當時拉班剪羊毛去了，拉結就偷了他父親的神像。

看哪，我在這裡！你們只管在耶和華面前，以及在他的受膏者面前，作證指控我：我奪過誰的牛？搶過誰的驢？欺負過誰？虐待過誰？從誰手裡受過賄賂，以致我的眼睛因此被蒙住呢？如果有，我必償還給你們。”他們回答：“你沒有欺負過我們，沒有虐待過我們，也沒有從誰手裡取過甚麼東西。”撒母耳對他們說：“今天耶和華在你們中間作見證，他的膏立者也作見證；你們在我手裡沒有找到甚麼。”他們說：“願他作證。”

免得有人因為我們經管的捐款太多，就毀謗我們。因為我們努力去作的，不僅是主認為是美的事，也是眾人認為是美的事。

我派到你們那裡去的人，我藉著誰佔過你們的便宜？我勸提多到你們那裡去，又派了那位弟兄一同去。提多佔過你們的便宜嗎？我們行事，不是同一個心靈嗎？不是同樣的步伐嗎？你們一直以為我們是在向你們申辯嗎？我們是在基督裡，當著神面前說話的。親愛的，一切事都是為了建立你們。

日後你來查看我的工資的時候，我好對你證明我的公道。凡在我手裡沒有斑點的山羊，或不是黑色的綿羊，都算是我偷來的。”

亞伯蘭就對羅得說：“你我之間，切不可紛爭；你的牧人和我的牧人之間，也不可紛爭，因為我們是至親。
