Why did you run off secretly and deceive me? Why didn’t you tell me, so I could send you away with joy and singing to the music of timbrels and harps?

Why did you run away in secret and trick me? Why didn’t you tell me? Then I could have sent you away happily. We could have sung to the music of tambourines and harps.

Why did you flee secretly and trick me, and did not tell me, so that I might have sent you away with mirth and songs, with tambourine and lyre?

Why did you slip away secretly? Why did you deceive me? And why didn’t you say you wanted to leave? I would have given you a farewell feast, with singing and music, accompanied by tambourines and harps.

雅各就回應拉班，說：「因為我害怕，我想你可能會從我這裡奪去你的女兒們。

火熱的嘴配邪惡的心，就像銀渣包在瓦器上。懷恨人的，用言語掩飾自己，心裡卻存著詭詐。他說的再好聽，也不要相信他，因為他的心裡有七樣可憎之事。他的怨恨雖用欺瞞掩蓋，但他的邪惡必在會眾裡被揭露。

雅各欺瞞亞蘭人拉班，沒有告訴他自己要逃走。雅各就這樣帶著一切屬於他的逃走了；他起身，渡過大河，面向基列山而去。

耶和華對雅各說：「你當回到你祖先之地，回到你的本族，我必與你同在。」雅各就派人去叫拉結和莉亞到田間的羊群那裡，對她們說：「我注意到你們父親的臉色，對我已經不如從前了；但我父親的神一直與我同在。

於是他們把自己的妹妹莉百加和她的乳母，以及亞伯拉罕的僕人和那些隨同他的人，都送走了。他們祝福莉百加，對她說：「我們的妹妹啊，願你成為千萬人的母親，願你的後裔占有仇敵的城門！」

他的兄弟名叫猶巴，猶巴是所有彈豎琴和吹笛子之人的始祖。
