當那一天、拉班把有紋的有點的公山羊、一切有斑有點的、就是一切有白點的母山羊、和綿羔羊中一切黑色的、都挑出來，交在他兒子們手下。又使自己和雅各之間相離着三天的路程；雅各就牧養拉班其餘的羊。雅各取了楊樹杏樹楓樹的嫩枝子，將枝子剝成了白的剝紋，使枝子的白質脫露出來。將他所剝皮的枝子插在槽裏，在水溝裏，就是羊來喝水的地方，和羊相對；羊來喝水的時候、公母往往配合。羊在枝子前面配合，就生下有紋有斑有點的來。雅各將綿羔羊分出來，使羊面對着拉班羊羣中有紋的和一切黑色的；他把自己的羊羣另放在一處，不放在拉班的羊中間。每逢肥壯的羊配合的時候，雅各總把枝子插在槽裏，正在羊眼前，使牠們在許多枝子中間配合。當羊瘦弱的時候，雅各卻不插着枝子：這樣，瘦弱的就歸拉班，肥壯的就歸雅各。於是雅各那個人就突破限量大大發達起來了，他擁有着很多羊羣、又有婢女、奴僕、駱駝和驢。雅各聽見拉班的兒子們有話說：『雅各把我們父親所有的都奪取了去，並且從我們父親所有的發了這一切財。』

女子啊，你要聽，要看，要傾耳以聽；務要忘掉你本族之民和你父的家；

這樣，上帝就把你們父親的牲畜奪來、賜給我了。
