主諭雅各曰、爾歸祖父之地、返爾宗族、我必祐爾、

雅各遂禱曰、吾祖亞伯拉罕之天主、吾父以撒之天主耶和華歟、昔命我云、返爾故土故族、我必賜恩於爾、

夢有梯置於地、梯首及天、天主之使者陟降於上、主立於梯上、或作立於其側曰、我乃耶和華、即爾祖亞伯拉罕之天主、與以撒之天主、爾所臥之地、悉以賜爾及爾後裔、爾之後裔、將多如地之塵沙、向東西南北蔓延、天下萬族、因爾與爾後裔得福、爾無論何往、我必祐爾護爾、使爾歸斯地、不遐棄爾、我所許爾者、必踐其言、雅各醒曰、主果在此、而我不知、乃惶懼曰、此處何其可畏、此非天主之殿、天之門乎、雅各夙興、以所枕之石立為柱、沃膏其上、名其所曰伯特利、伯特利譯即天主室之義斯邑原名路斯、雅各許願曰、如天主在我所行之路眷祐我、庇護我、賜我衣食、使我安然歸父家、則我敬主為我之天主、我所立為柱之石、將為天主室、凡主所賜我者、必十輸其一獻於主、

昔雅各避其兄以掃時、天主於彼顯現、故雅各建祭臺於彼、名其地曰伊勒伯特利、伊勒伯特利譯即在伯特利顯現之天主
