The LORD was standing there beside him, saying,“ I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your offspring the land on which you are lying.

If they were thinking about where they came from, they would have had an opportunity to return.But they now desire a better place— a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

“ Then he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. From there, after his father died, God had him move to this land in which you are now living.He didn’t give him an inheritance in it— not even a foot of ground— but he promised to give it to him as a possession, and to his descendants after him, even though he was childless.

By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents as did Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise.

stay in this land as an alien, and I will be with you and bless you. For I will give all these lands to you and your offspring, and I will confirm the oath that I swore to your father Abraham.

Laban got up early in the morning, kissed his grandchildren and daughters, and blessed them. Then Laban left to return home.

I am the God of Bethel, where you poured oil on the stone marker and made a solemn vow to me. Get up, leave this land, and return to your native land.’”

Abraham answered him,“ Make sure that you don’t take my son back there.The LORD, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and from my native land, who spoke to me and swore to me,‘ I will give this land to your offspring’— he will send his angel before you, and you can take a wife for my son from there.

and stay with him for a few days until your brother’s anger subsides—until your brother’s rage turns away from you and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send for you and bring you back from there. Why should I lose you both in one day?”
