Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

永恆主發神諭說：人哪能在隱密處藏身，使我看不見他呢？永恆主發神諭說：我，難道我不充滿着天地麼？

永恆主啊，你察透了我，你認識我。我坐下、我起來、只有你才曉得；我的意念你從遠處就明白。我行路、我伸懶腰、你都篩下來細察；我一切所行的、你都熟悉。永恆主啊，我舌頭上發出的話沒有一句你不知道。你在我前後圍繞着我，你按手在我身上。這樣的知識太奇妙，我不能測；太高，我不能及。我往哪裏去躲避你的靈？我逃哪裏去躲避你的面呢？我若升到天上，你在那裏；我若拿陰間當床鋪，看哪，你也在那裏！我若鼓起黎明的翅膀，飛到海極去住，就是在那裏、你也使手按住我；你的右手也把我抓緊。我若說：『願黑暗遮蔽着我，願我周圍的光成為黑夜』，就是黑暗、也非黑暗、而使你不見我呀；黑夜卻如白晝發亮：黑暗怎樣，亮光也怎樣。

被創造者在上帝面前、沒有一個是不顯露的；萬物在我們必須和他算賬的主眼前、都是赤裸裸、捉襟肘見的。

我若像人遮掩自己的過犯，將我自己的罪孽藏於胸中，

但是約拿卻起來，逃往他施去避永恆主的面；他下到約帕，遇見了一隻船要往他施；他給了船費，就下船，要和他們同往他施、去避永恆主的面。

『因為上帝的眼監視人所行的路，他看明人的腳步。沒有黑暗沒有漆黑能給作孽之人藏身。

永恆主的眼目無所不在；壞人好人他都鑒察。

他對他們說：『我是個希伯來人；我敬畏的是耶和華，天上的上帝、那造大海和旱地的。』那些人就大大懼怕，對他說：『你幹的這事是甚麼事啊！』原來那些人已經知道他是避永恆主之面的，因為他告訴了他們了。

這種人就證顯律法之功用是寫在他們自己心裏；他們的良知一同作證，他們的思想互相控告為有罪，或者自己辯護為無罪、

『即使他們挖到了陰間，就是從那裏、我的手也必把他們捉出來；即使他們爬上天去，就是從那裏、我也必將他們拿下來。即使他們藏在迦密山頂，就是從那裏、我也必搜尋去捉出來；即使他們隱藏在海底、離開我眼前，就是從那裏、我也必吩咐蛇去咬他們。

有哪一族之民曾聽見一位神在火中講話的聲音，像你那樣聽見、還能活着呢？

那時永恆主從旋風中回答約伯說：

因為永恆主你的上帝在你營中往來、要援救你，要將仇敵交在你面前；故此你的營要聖潔，不可讓他看見你中間有甚麼現露難看的，以致他轉回而離開你。

他說：『我聽見你的聲音在園中，我就害怕，因為我赤身裸體；我便藏了起來。』

現在這大火將要燒滅我們，我們又何必冒死呢？我們若再聽見永恆主我們的上帝的聲音，就會死的。

密雲遮蔽着他，使他不能看見；他是周遊於天穹之上的。」
