They heard Yahweh God’s voice walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden.

耶和華啊，你已經洞察我，認識我！我坐下、我起來，你都知道；你從遠方就知道我的意念。我行路、我躺臥，你都細察；你熟悉我的一切道路。耶和華啊，我舌頭上的話還沒有說，看哪，你已經完全知道了！你前後圍繞我，把你的手按在我身上。這知識對我過於奇妙，過於高深，我不能達到。我去到哪裡，能逃避你的靈呢？我逃到哪裡，能躲避你的面呢？如果我升到天上，你在那裡；如果我躺在陰間，看哪，你也在那裡！如果我揚起黎明的翅膀，安居在海洋的盡頭，縱然在那裡，你的手仍引導我，你的右手也抓緊我。就算我說：「黑暗必然覆蓋我，我周圍的亮光也必變為黑夜」，但對你來說，黑暗也不是黑暗，黑夜如同白晝一樣明亮，黑暗就像光明一樣。

並且被造之物在神面前，沒有一樣不是顯明的；萬有在他眼前，都是赤裸敞開的；我們都要向他交代。

約拿卻起來，要避開耶和華的面，逃往塔爾施。他下到約帕，找到一艘去塔爾施的船，付了船費，上了船，要避開耶和華的面，與船上的人往塔爾施去。

耶和華的眼目無處不在；壞人好人，他都察看。

約拿對他們說：「我是希伯來人；我敬畏耶和華天上的神；他就是造了海和陸地的那一位。」那些人大大懼怕，就問他：「你做的這是什麼呢？」原來那些人已經知道他逃避耶和華的面，因為他告訴了他們。

這就顯出律法的要求刻在他們的心裡，他們的良心也一同作證，而且自己的心思之間，互相控告或辯解。

那人說：「我在園子裡聽見你的聲音就害怕，因為我是赤身的；於是我躲藏了。」
