“人怎能躲藏在隐密处，以致我看不见他呢？（这是耶和华的宣告）。我岂不是充满天地吗？”这是耶和华的宣告。

耶和华啊！你鉴察了我，你认识我。（本节在《马索拉文本》包括细字标题）我坐下，我起来，你都知道；你在远处就明白我的意念。我行路，我躺卧，你都细察；我的一切行为，你都熟悉。耶和华啊！我的舌头还没有发言，你已经完全知道了。你在我前后围绕着我，你的手按在我身上。这样的知识奇妙，是我不能理解的；高超，是我不能达到的。我到哪里去躲避你的灵？我往哪里去逃避你的面呢？如果我升到天上，你在那里；如果我在阴间下榻，你也在那里。如果我展开清晨的翅膀，飞到海的极处居住，就是在那里，你的手仍必引导我，你的右手也必扶持我。如果我说：“愿黑暗遮盖我，愿我周围的亮光变成黑夜。”但对你来说，黑暗也不算是黑暗，黑夜必如同白昼一样发亮，黑暗和光明，在你看来都是一样的。

被造的在神面前没有一样不是显明的，万有在他的眼前都是赤露敞开的；我们必须向他交帐。

我若像亚当遮掩我的过犯，把我的罪孽藏在怀中，

可是约拿却起来，要逃往他施去，躲避耶和华；他下到约帕，找到了一只要开往他施去的船；他给了钱，就上船（“上船”原文作“下船”），要和他们同往他施去，离开耶和华。

神的眼看顾人的道路，察看他每一步，没有黑暗，又没有死荫的地方，可以给作孽的在那里藏身。

耶和华的眼目无所不在；坏人好人他都鉴察。

他回答说：“我是希伯来人，我敬畏耶和华天上的神，就是那创造海洋和陆地的。”众人就大大惧怕，对他说：“你为什么这样作呢？（“你为什么这样作呢？”或译：“你作的是什么呢？”）”那些人知道他躲避耶和华，原来约拿告诉了他们。

这就表明律法的作用是刻在他们的心里，有他们的良心一同作证，他们的思想互相较量，或作控告、或作辩护。

如果他们下到阴间，就是在那里，我的手必把他们揪上来；如果他们升到天上，就是在那里，我必把他们拉下来；如果他们躲在迦密山顶，就是在那里，我必搜寻他们，抓他们出来；如果他们要躲避我，藏在海底，就是在那里，我必命令蛇去咬他们；

有没有一个民族听见神在火中说话的声音，像你听见的一样，还能活着呢？

那时，耶和华在旋风中回答约伯，说：

因为耶和华你的神常在你的营中行走，要拯救你，要把你的仇敌交在你的面前；所以你的营要圣洁，免得他看见你那里有污秽的东西，就离开你。

他回答：“我在园中听见你的声音，就害怕；因为我赤身露体，就藏了起来。”

现在这大火快要吞灭我们了，我们为什么要冒死呢？如果我们再听见耶和华我们神的声音，我们就必死亡。

密云把他遮盖，使他不能看见我们；他在天上的圆圈上面走来走去。’
