The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

And the dragon was angry at the woman and declared war against the rest of her children— all who keep God’s commandments and maintain their testimony for Jesus.

But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.

For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel( which means‘ God is with us’).

He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!

Because God’s children are human beings— made of flesh and blood— the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

“ Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means‘ God is with us.’”

The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one.

Then he said,“ You son of the devil, full of every sort of deceit and fraud, and enemy of all that is good! Will you never stop perverting the true ways of the Lord?

You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David.And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!”Mary asked the angel,“ But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”The angel replied,“ The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.

Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels.And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of heaven.This great dragon— the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world— was thrown down to the earth with all his angels.Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens,“ It has come at last— salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth— the one who accuses them before our God day and night.And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.Therefore, rejoice, O heavens! And you who live in the heavens, rejoice! But terror will come on the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great anger, knowing that he has little time.”When the dragon realized that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.

Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

The Lord swore an oath to David with a promise he will never take back:“ I will place one of your descendants on your throne.

Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.

So the Lord sent poisonous snakes among the people, and many were bitten and died.Then the people came to Moses and cried out,“ We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take away the snakes.” So Moses prayed for the people.

I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.

How long will you wander, my wayward daughter? For the Lord will cause something new to happen— Israel will embrace her God.”

That is why the Scriptures say,“ When he ascended to the heights, he led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to his people.”

In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

“ I don’t have much more time to talk to you, because the ruler of this world approaches. He has no power over me,but I will do what the Father requires of me, so that the world will know that I love the Father. Come, let’s be going.

And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

The people of Israel will be abandoned to their enemies until the woman in labor gives birth. Then at last his fellow countrymen will return from exile to their own land.

Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives.There he told them,“ Pray that you will not give in to temptation.”He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed,“ Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him.He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.

Why didn’t you arrest me in the Temple? I was there every day. But this is your moment, the time when the power of darkness reigns.”

Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you. You will suffer for ten days. But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life.

The time for judging this world has come, when Satan, the ruler of this world, will be cast out.And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.”He said this to indicate how he was going to die.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil.For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry.During that time the devil came and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”But Jesus told him,“ No! The Scriptures say,‘ People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple,and said,“ If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say,‘ He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’”Jesus responded,“ The Scriptures also say,‘ You must not test the Lord your God.’”Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.“ I will give it all to you,” he said,“ if you will kneel down and worship me.”“ Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him.“ For the Scriptures say,‘ You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the bottomless pit and a heavy chain in his hand.He seized the dragon— that old serpent, who is the devil, Satan— and bound him in chains for a thousand years.The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished. Afterward he must be released for a little while.

But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.

Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.

While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.

“ And you, my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will prepare the way for the Lord.

And the beast was allowed to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And he was given authority to rule over every tribe and people and language and nation.

Then I saw in heaven another marvelous event of great significance. Seven angels were holding the seven last plagues, which would bring God’s wrath to completion.I saw before me what seemed to be a glass sea mixed with fire. And on it stood all the people who had been victorious over the beast and his statue and the number representing his name. They were all holding harps that God had given them.And they were singing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb:“ Great and marvelous are your works, O Lord God, the Almighty. Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations.Who will not fear you, Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous deeds have been revealed.”Then I looked and saw that the Temple in heaven, God’s Tabernacle, was thrown wide open.The seven angels who were holding the seven plagues came out of the Temple. They were clothed in spotless white linen with gold sashes across their chests.

You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.

Snakes! Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment of hell?

Dan will be a snake beside the road, a poisonous viper along the path that bites the horse’s hooves so its rider is thrown off.

But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to watch him baptize, he denounced them.“ You brood of snakes!” he exclaimed.“ Who warned you to flee the coming wrath?

“ Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies.”“ Snake venom drips from their lips.”

Even if they hide at the very top of Mount Carmel, I will search them out and capture them. Even if they hide at the bottom of the ocean, I will send the sea serpent after them to bite them.

When the thousand years come to an end, Satan will be let out of his prison.He will go out to deceive the nations— called Gog and Magog— in every corner of the earth. He will gather them together for battle— a mighty army, as numberless as sand along the seashore.

“ After this period of sixty two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end.

They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”

As Paul gathered an armful of sticks and was laying them on the fire, a poisonous snake, driven out by the heat, bit him on the hand.The people of the island saw it hanging from his hand and said to each other,“ A murderer, no doubt! Though he escaped the sea, justice will not permit him to live.”But Paul shook off the snake into the fire and was unharmed.The people waited for him to swell up or suddenly drop dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw that he wasn’t harmed, they changed their minds and decided he was a god.
