She conceived again and bore a son, and said,“ Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.

Again she conceived, and when she gave birth to a son she said,“ Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.

She became pregnant again. She had a son. Then she said,“ Now at last my husband will value me. I have had three sons by him.” So the boy was named Levi.

Again she conceived and bore a son, and said,“ Now this time my husband will be attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.

Then she became pregnant a third time and gave birth to another son. He was named Levi, for she said,“ Surely this time my husband will feel affection for me, since I have given him three sons!”

She conceived again, gave birth to a son, and said,“ At last, my husband will become attached to me because I have borne three sons for him.” Therefore he was named Levi.

And she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said,“ Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore he was named Levi.

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have borne him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.

then Moses stood in the entrance of the camp, and said,“ Whoever is on the Lord’s side— come to me!” And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.And he said to them,“ Thus says the Lord God of Israel:‘ Let every man put his sword on his side, and go in and out from entrance to entrance throughout the camp, and let every man kill his brother, every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.’”So the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses. And about three thousand men of the people fell that day.Then Moses said,“ Consecrate yourselves today to the Lord, that He may bestow on you a blessing this day, for every man has opposed his son and his brother.”

“ Simeon and Levi are brothers; Instruments of cruelty are in their dwelling place.Let not my soul enter their council; Let not my honor be united to their assembly; For in their anger they slew a man, And in their self-will they hamstrung an ox.Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; And their wrath, for it is cruel! I will divide them in Jacob And scatter them in Israel.

Also bring with you your brethren of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, that they may be joined with you and serve you while you and your sons are with you before the tabernacle of witness.They shall attend to your needs and all the needs of the tabernacle; but they shall not come near the articles of the sanctuary and the altar, lest they die— they and you also.They shall be joined with you and attend to the needs of the tabernacle of meeting, for all the work of the tabernacle; but an outsider shall not come near you.

Now it came to pass on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword and came boldly upon the city and killed all the males.

And of Levi he said:“ Let Your Thummim and Your Urim be with Your holy one, Whom You tested at Massah, And with whom You contended at the waters of Meribah,Who says of his father and mother,‘ I have not seen them’; Nor did he acknowledge his brothers, Or know his own children; For they have observed Your word And kept Your covenant.They shall teach Jacob Your judgments, And Israel Your law. They shall put incense before You, And a whole burnt sacrifice on Your altar.

And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi.

The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

the sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun;
