So Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said,“ The LORD has looked with pity on my oppressed condition. Surely my husband will love me now.”

Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said,“ It is because the Lord has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now.”

Leah became pregnant. She had a son. She named him Reuben. She said,“ The Lord has seen me suffer. Surely my husband will love me now.”

And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said,“ Because the Lord has looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.”

So Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said,“ The Lord has noticed my misery, and now my husband will love me.”

The LORD said,“ I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt. I have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

See my pain and suffering! Forgive all my sins!

If the God of my father– the God of Abraham, the one whom Isaac fears– had not been with me, you would certainly have sent me away empty-handed! But God saw how I was oppressed and how hard I worked, and he rebuked you last night.”

“ This is what the Lord has done for me at the time when he has been gracious to me, to take away my disgrace among people.”

When one of them opened his sack to get feed for his donkey at their resting place, he saw his money in the mouth of his sack.

Perhaps the LORD will notice my affliction and this day grant me good in place of his curse.”

Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might and the beginning of my strength, outstanding in dignity, outstanding in power.You are destructive like water and will not excel, for you got on your father’s bed, then you defiled it– he got on my couch!

Later Reuben returned to the cistern to find that Joseph was not in it! He tore his clothes,

While Israel was living in that land, Reuben had sexual relations with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard about it. Jacob had twelve sons:

After some time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, thinking,“ I asked the LORD for him.

Throw him into this cistern that is here in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him.”( Reuben said this so he could rescue Joseph from them and take him back to his father.)

The sons of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn–( Now he was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father’s bed, his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph, Israel’s son. So Reuben is not listed as firstborn in the genealogical records.

She made a vow saying,“ O LORD of hosts, if you will look with compassion on the suffering of your female servant, remembering me and not forgetting your servant, and give a male child to your servant, then I will dedicate him to the LORD all the days of his life. His hair will never be cut.”

Yet he took notice of their distress, when he heard their cry for help.

These are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt– Jacob and his sons: Reuben, the firstborn of Jacob.The sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

Reuben said to them,“ Didn’t I say to you,‘ Don’t sin against the boy,’ but you wouldn’t listen? So now we must pay for shedding his blood!”
