Jesus’ mother was there, andJesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding as well. When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother told Him,“ They don’t have any wine.”“ What has this concern of yours to do with Me, woman?” Jesus asked.“ My hour has not yet come.”“ Do whatever He tells you,” His mother told the servants. Now six stone water jars had been set there for Jewish purification. Each contained 20 or 30 gallons.“ Fill the jars with water,” Jesus told them. So they filled them to the brim. Then He said to them,“ Now draw some out and take it to the chief servant.” And they did. When the chief servant tasted the water( after it had become wine), he did not know where it came from— though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Come out to meet him.’“ Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. But the foolish ones said to the sensible ones,‘ Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’“ The sensible ones answered,‘ No, there won’t be enough for us and for you. Go instead to those who sell, and buy oil for yourselves.’“ When they had gone to buy some, the groom arrived. Then those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut.

I will also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, Mahlon’s widow, as my wife, to perpetuate the deceased man’s name on his property, so that his name will not disappear among his relatives or from the gate of his home. You are witnesses today.”The elders and all the people who were at the gate said,“ We are witnesses. May the Lord make the woman who is entering your house like Rachel and Leah, who together built the house of Israel. May you be powerful in Ephrathah and famous in Bethlehem.May your house become like the house of Perez, the son Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring the Lord will give you by this young woman.”Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. When he was intimate with her, the Lord enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.
  • Matthew 22:2-10
“ The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.He sent out his slaves to summon those invited to the banquet, but they didn’t want to come.Again, he sent out other slaves, and said,‘ Tell those who are invited: Look, I’ve prepared my dinner; my oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’“ But they paid no attention and went away, one to his own farm, another to his business. And the others seized his slaves, treated them outrageously and killed them. The king was enraged, so he sent out his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned down their city.“ Then he told his slaves,‘ The banquet is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Therefore go to where the roads exit the city and invite everyone you find to the banquet.’So those slaves went out on the roads and gathered everyone they found, both evil and good. The wedding banquet was filled with guests.

His father went to visit the woman, and Samson prepared a feast there, as young men were accustomed to do.When the Philistines saw him, they brought 30 men to accompany him.“ Let me tell you a riddle,” Samson said to them.“ If you can explain it to me during the seven days of the feast and figure it out, I will give you 30 linen garments and 30 changes of clothes. But if you can’t explain it to me, you must give me 30 linen garments and 30 changes of clothes.”“ Tell us your riddle,” they replied.“ Let’s hear it.”So he said to them: Out of the eater came something to eat, and out of the strong came something sweet. After three days, they were unable to explain the riddle. On the fourth day they said to Samson’s wife,“ Persuade your husband to explain the riddle to us, or we will burn you and your father’s household to death. Did you invite us here to rob us?”So Samson’s wife came to him, weeping, and said,“ You hate me and don’t love me! You told my people the riddle, but haven’t explained it to me.”“ Look,” he said,“ I haven’t even explained it to my father or mother, so why should I explain it to you?”She wept the whole seven days of the feast, and at last, on the seventh day, he explained it to her, because she had nagged him so much. Then she explained it to her people. On the seventh day, before sunset, the men of the city said to him: What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion? So he said to them: If you hadn’t plowed with my young cow, you wouldn’t know my riddle now!
