May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.”

The purpose was that the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles by Christ Jesus, so that we could receive the promised Spirit through faith.

The LORD appeared to Abram and said,“ To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the LORD who had appeared to him.

Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ.

“ Hear my prayer, LORD, and listen to my cry for help; do not be silent at my tears. For I am here with you as an alien, a temporary resident like all my ancestors.

I will indeed bless you and make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your offspring will possess the city gates of their enemies.And all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring because you have obeyed my command.”

I will make you extremely fruitful and will make nations and kings come from you.I will confirm my covenant that is between me and you and your future offspring throughout their generations. It is a permanent covenant to be your God and the God of your offspring after you.And to you and your future offspring I will give the land where you are residing— all the land of Canaan— as a permanent possession, and I will be their God.”

Now the Scripture saw in advance that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and proclaimed the gospel ahead of time to Abraham, saying, All the nations will be blessed through you.

By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents as did Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise.For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.By faith even Sarah herself, when she was unable to have children, received power to conceive offspring, even though she was past the age, since she considered that the one who had promised was faithful.Therefore, from one man— in fact, from one as good as dead— came offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and as innumerable as the grains of sand along the seashore.These all died in faith, although they had not received the things that were promised. But they saw them from a distance, greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth.

May his name endure forever; as long as the sun shines, may his fame increase. May all nations be blessed by him and call him blessed.

After Lot had separated from him, the LORD said to Abram,“ Look from the place where you are. Look north and south, east and west,for I will give you and your offspring forever all the land that you see.I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust of the earth, then your offspring could be counted.Get up and walk around the land, through its length and width, for I will give it to you.”

The LORD said to Abram: Go from your land, your relatives, and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you, I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt, and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying,“ I give this land to your offspring, from the Brook of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates River:the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites,Hethites, Perizzites, Rephaim,Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites, and Jebusites.”

He took him outside and said,“ Look at the sky and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him,“ Your offspring will be that numerous.”Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.He also said to him,“ I am the LORD who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.”
