How he swore to the Lord, And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:

Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, in sackcloth, and with dust on their heads.Then those of Israelite lineage separated themselves from all foreigners; and they stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for one-fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God.Then Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani stood on the stairs of the Levites and cried out with a loud voice to the Lord their God.And the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said:“ Stand up and bless the Lord your God Forever and ever!“ Blessed be Your glorious name, Which is exalted above all blessing and praise!You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven, The heaven of heavens, with all their host, The earth and everything on it, The seas and all that is in them, And You preserve them all. The host of heaven worships You.“ You are the Lord God, Who chose Abram, And brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans, And gave him the name Abraham;You found his heart faithful before You, And made a covenant with him To give the land of the Canaanites, The Hittites, the Amorites, The Perizzites, the Jebusites, And the Girgashites— To give it to his descendants. You have performed Your words, For You are righteous.“ You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, And heard their cry by the Red Sea.You showed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, Against all his servants, And against all the people of his land. For You knew that they acted proudly against them. So You made a name for Yourself, as it is this day.

I will pay my vows to the Lord Now in the presence of all His people,

And when it was day, some of the Jews banded together and bound themselves under an oath, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.Now there were more than forty who had formed this conspiracy.They came to the chief priests and elders, and said,“ We have bound ourselves under a great oath that we will eat nothing until we have killed Paul.Now you, therefore, together with the council, suggest to the commander that he be brought down to you tomorrow, as though you were going to make further inquiries concerning him; but we are ready to kill him before he comes near.”

I have sworn and confirmed That I will keep Your righteous judgments.

I will pay my vows to the Lord Now in the presence of all His people.

So Paul still remained a good while. Then he took leave of the brethren and sailed for Syria, and Priscilla and Aquila were with him. He had his hair cut off at Cenchrea, for he had taken a vow.

Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,“ Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them:‘ When a man consecrates by a vow certain persons to the Lord, according to your valuation,if your valuation is of a male from twenty years old up to sixty years old, then your valuation shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary.If it is a female, then your valuation shall be thirty shekels;and if from five years old up to twenty years old, then your valuation for a male shall be twenty shekels, and for a female ten shekels;and if from a month old up to five years old, then your valuation for a male shall be five shekels of silver, and for a female your valuation shall be three shekels of silver;and if from sixty years old and above, if it is a male, then your valuation shall be fifteen shekels, and for a female ten shekels.‘ But if he is too poor to pay your valuation, then he shall present himself before the priest, and the priest shall set a value for him; according to the ability of him who vowed, the priest shall value him.‘ If it is an animal that men may bring as an offering to the Lord, all that anyone gives to the Lord shall be holy.He shall not substitute it or exchange it, good for bad or bad for good; and if he at all exchanges animal for animal, then both it and the one exchanged for it shall be holy.If it is an unclean animal which they do not offer as a sacrifice to the Lord, then he shall present the animal before the priest;and the priest shall set a value for it, whether it is good or bad; as you, the priest, value it, so it shall be.But if he wants at all to redeem it, then he must add one-fifth to your valuation.‘ And when a man dedicates his house to be holy to the Lord, then the priest shall set a value for it, whether it is good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand.If he who dedicated it wants to redeem his house, then he must add one-fifth of the money of your valuation to it, and it shall be his.‘ If a man dedicates to the Lord part of a field of his possession, then your valuation shall be according to the seed for it. A homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver.If he dedicates his field from the Year of Jubilee, according to your valuation it shall stand.But if he dedicates his field after the Jubilee, then the priest shall reckon to him the money due according to the years that remain till the Year of Jubilee, and it shall be deducted from your valuation.And if he who dedicates the field ever wishes to redeem it, then he must add one-fifth of the money of your valuation to it, and it shall belong to him.But if he does not want to redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed anymore;but the field, when it is released in the Jubilee, shall be holy to the Lord, as a devoted field; it shall be the possession of the priest.‘ And if a man dedicates to the Lord a field which he has bought, which is not the field of his possession,then the priest shall reckon to him the worth of your valuation, up to the Year of Jubilee, and he shall give your valuation on that day as a holy offering to the Lord.In the Year of Jubilee the field shall return to him from whom it was bought, to the one who owned the land as a possession.And all your valuations shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs to the shekel.‘ But the firstborn of the animals, which should be the LORD’s firstborn, no man shall dedicate; whether it is an ox or sheep, it is the LORD’s.And if it is an unclean animal, then he shall redeem it according to your valuation, and shall add one-fifth to it; or if it is not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to your valuation.‘ Nevertheless no devoted offering that a man may devote to the Lord of all that he has, both man and beast, or the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted offering is most holy to the Lord.No person under the ban, who may become doomed to destruction among men, shall be redeemed, but shall surely be put to death.And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’s. It is holy to the Lord.If a man wants at all to redeem any of his tithes, he shall add one-fifth to it.And concerning the tithe of the herd or the flock, of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the Lord.He shall not inquire whether it is good or bad, nor shall he exchange it; and if he exchanges it at all, then both it and the one exchanged for it shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.’”These are the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses for the children of Israel on Mount Sinai.

For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your name.

And the men of Israel were distressed that day, for Saul had placed the people under oath, saying,“ Cursed is the man who eats any food until evening, before I have taken vengeance on my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food.

Walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few.For a dream comes through much activity, And a fool’s voice is known by his many words.When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed—Better not to vow than to vow and not pay.Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, nor say before the messenger of God that it was an error. Why should God be angry at your excuse and destroy the work of your hands?For in the multitude of dreams and many words there is also vanity. But fear God.

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,“ Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them:‘ When either a man or woman consecrates an offering to take the vow of a Nazirite, to separate himself to the Lord,he shall separate himself from wine and similar drink; he shall drink neither vinegar made from wine nor vinegar made from similar drink; neither shall he drink any grape juice, nor eat fresh grapes or raisins.All the days of his separation he shall eat nothing that is produced by the grapevine, from seed to skin.‘ All the days of the vow of his separation no razor shall come upon his head; until the days are fulfilled for which he separated himself to the Lord, he shall be holy. Then he shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.All the days that he separates himself to the Lord he shall not go near a dead body.He shall not make himself unclean even for his father or his mother, for his brother or his sister, when they die, because his separation to God is on his head.All the days of his separation he shall be holy to the Lord.‘ And if anyone dies very suddenly beside him, and he defiles his consecrated head, then he shall shave his head on the day of his cleansing; on the seventh day he shall shave it.Then on the eighth day he shall bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons to the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of meeting;and the priest shall offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, and make atonement for him, because he sinned in regard to the corpse; and he shall sanctify his head that same day.He shall consecrate to the Lord the days of his separation, and bring a male lamb in its first year as a trespass offering; but the former days shall be lost, because his separation was defiled.‘ Now this is the law of the Nazirite: When the days of his separation are fulfilled, he shall be brought to the door of the tabernacle of meeting.And he shall present his offering to the Lord: one male lamb in its first year without blemish as a burnt offering, one ewe lamb in its first year without blemish as a sin offering, one ram without blemish as a peace offering,a basket of unleavened bread, cakes of fine flour mixed with oil, unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and their grain offering with their drink offerings.‘ Then the priest shall bring them before the Lord and offer his sin offering and his burnt offering;and he shall offer the ram as a sacrifice of a peace offering to the Lord, with the basket of unleavened bread; the priest shall also offer its grain offering and its drink offering.Then the Nazirite shall shave his consecrated head at the door of the tabernacle of meeting, and shall take the hair from his consecrated head and put it on the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace offering.‘ And the priest shall take the boiled shoulder of the ram, one unleavened cake from the basket, and one unleavened wafer, and put them upon the hands of the Nazirite after he has shaved his consecrated hair,and the priest shall wave them as a wave offering before the Lord; they are holy for the priest, together with the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering. After that the Nazirite may drink wine.’

Then the Lord will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the Lord in that day, and will make sacrifice and offering; yes, they will make a vow to the Lord and perform it.

And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord, and said,“ If You will indeed deliver the people of Ammon into my hands,then it will be that whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the people of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD’s, and I will offer it up as a burnt offering.”

So I will sing praise to Your name forever, That I may daily perform my vows.

Vows made to You are binding upon me, O God; I will render praises to You,

Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”

So Israel made a vow to the Lord, and said,“ If You will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.”And the Lord listened to the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites, and they utterly destroyed them and their cities. So the name of that place was called Hormah.

Make vows to the Lord your God, and pay them; Let all who are around Him bring presents to Him who ought to be feared.

My praise shall be of You in the great assembly; I will pay My vows before those who fear Him.
