When your brother is no longer angry with you and forgets what you did to him, I’ll send word for you to come back from there. Why should I lose both of you in one day?”

爾曰、或今日、或明日、將往某邑、淹留一載、貿易得利、獨是明日之事、爾且弗能知、爾命伊何、猶雲霧聚散倏忽、出沒頃刻、然爾當曰、若主旨賜我生命、則必如此以行、

夷人見蝮懸繞其手、相語曰、是誠殺人者、雖得救於海、理不容其生也、

在田相鬥、排解無人、甲擊其乙、以至於斃。闔家攻婢曰、殺昆弟者當解之至、以償弟命、然婢止存此子、猶爐存爝火、尚欲撲滅之乎、若是則我夫之名不能恆繼於世。

或獸傷人、或人相殺、凡流血殞命、殘害兄弟者、我必伸其冤。余造世人、與我維肖、故流人血者、人必流其血。

曰爾弟來、施其詭謀、奪爾福祉、

耶和華有定命、人縱多謀、亦無裨也。

未得主命、誰能言而有應兮。

嗣後該隱與弟晤談、及至田間、攻而殺之。○耶和華問該隱曰、爾弟何在、曰、不知、我豈防閑弟者乎。曰、爾果何為、爾弟之血有聲、自地籲我。汝既殺弟、地口遂張、以受其血、故爾見詛、必離斯土、厥後爾雖耕田、地不效力、爾將流離無定、該隱謂耶和華曰、我罹重刑、實所不堪。爾今逐我、必離斯土、不復覿爾面、流離無定、恐遇我者殺我、耶和華曰、凡殺該隱者、使其七倍受罰。於是耶和華加以印誌、免遇之者擊之。○該隱遂離耶和華、往埃田東、挪得地居焉。
