來，如今請注意！你們說：『今天或明天我們要往某某城，在那裏度一年，作生意賺錢』，然而明天的事你們還不知道呢！你們的生命甚麼樣呢？你們簡直是水氣，出現少時，隨後就不見了。你們倒應當說：『若是主的旨意，我們就會活着，就可以作這事或那事』。

蠻野人看見那活物懸在保羅手上，就彼此說：『這個人一定是兇手，他從海裏平安得了救，天理報應還不容他活着。』

婢女有兩個兒子；他們二人在田間鬧爭鬪；沒有人從中排解；這一個就擊打那一個，竟把他殺死了。你看，現在全家族都起來攻擊你婢女，說：「把那擊殺他兄弟的交出來，我們好治死他，來償他殺死兄弟的命；並且也可以除滅那繼承家業的。」這一來、他們就要使我剩下的炭火都熄滅，而不給我丈夫留名或留餘種在地上了。』

實在的，流你們的血、流你們性命之血的罪，我總要討罰的；我要向各樣走獸討罰：向人的手、向每一個人兄弟的手、討罰那害人性命的罪。『使人流血的、人也必使他流血；因為上帝造人、是按上帝自己的形像造的。

以撒說：『你兄弟進來，用詭詐把你應得的祝福取了去了。』

人心裏多有設計，惟獨永恆主的計畫才能立定。

除非主命定，誰能說成就成呢？

該隱對他的兄弟亞伯說：『我們出去到田間吧。』二人正在田間，該隱就起來打他的兄弟亞伯，把他殺了。永恆主對該隱說：『你兄弟亞伯在哪裏？』他說：『我不知道。我，我哪是看守我兄弟的呢？』永恆主說：『你幹了甚麼事？你兄弟的血有聲音從地裏向我哀叫呢。地開了口，從你手裏收取了你兄弟的血了；如今你，你是受咒詛、須離開這地的。你種地，地必不再給你效力：你必流離飄蕩於地上。』該隱對永恆主說；『我的罪罰太重，過於我所能擔當的。你看，你今日趕逐我離開這地，叫我自己躲藏，不得見你的面，我就會流離飄蕩於地上；那麼凡遇見我的就會殺我了。』永恆主對該隱說：『既然如此，凡殺該隱的就須遭報七倍。』永恆主便給該隱立個記號，免得遇見他的人擊殺他。於是該隱從永恆主面前走開，去住在伊甸東邊挪得之地。
