其氣已平、忘爾所為、我則遣人召爾、奚為一日喪二子乎、

迨爾兄之怒已息、忘爾所行之事、我則遣人召爾歸、豈可一日喪爾二人乎、

When your brother is no longer angry with you and forgets what you did to him, I’ll send word for you to come back from there. Why should I lose both of you in one day?”

你們說：“今天或明天，我們要到某城去，在那裡住一年，作生意賺錢。”其實明天怎樣，你們並不知道。你們的生命是甚麼呢？你們本來是過眼雲煙，轉瞬之間就消逝了。你們倒不如說：“主若願意，我們就可以活著，作這事或作那事。”

當地的人看見那條蛇懸在他手上，就彼此說：“這個人一定是兇手，雖然從海裡脫險，天理也不容他活著！”

婢女有兩個兒子；有一天，他們兩人在田裡打架，當時沒有人勸開他們，這個就擊打那個，竟把他打死了。看哪！現在全家族的人都起來攻擊婢女，說：‘你要把那擊殺他兄弟的兇手交出來，好讓我們把他處死，以償他兄弟的命，也可以滅絕那繼承產業的。’這樣他們要使我所剩下的炭火也都熄滅了，不讓我丈夫在這世上留下名字，或留下後代。”

流你們的血、害你們生命的，我必向他們追償；無論是走獸或人類，甚至各人自己的兄弟，我必要他償命。流人血的，人也必流他的血；因為神造人，是按著他自己的形象。

以撒說：“你弟弟已經前來，用詭計把你的祝福奪去了。”

人心裡的謀算很多，唯有耶和華的計劃能實現。

除非主命定，誰能說成，就成了呢？

該隱對他的弟弟亞伯說：“我們到田間去吧。”﹙《馬索拉文本》缺“我們到田間去吧”一句，現參照其他抄本及古譯本補上。﹚，該隱就起來襲擊他的弟弟亞伯，把他殺了。耶和華問該隱：“你的弟弟亞伯在哪裡？”他回答：“我不知道；難道我是看守我弟弟的嗎？”耶和華說：“你作了甚麼事呢？你弟弟的血有聲音從地裡向我呼叫。地開了口，從你手裡接受了你弟弟的血，現在你要從這地受咒詛。你種地，地也不再給你效力；你必在地上流離失所。”該隱對耶和華說：“我的刑罰太重，過於我所能擔當。看哪，今日你趕逐我離開這地，以致我要躲避你的面；我必在地上流離失所，遇見我的，都要殺我。”耶和華對該隱說：“絕不會這樣，殺該隱的，必遭報七倍。”耶和華就給該隱立了一個記號，免得遇見他的人擊殺他。於是該隱從耶和華面前出去，住在伊甸東邊的挪得地。
