约兰年间，以东人背叛犹大，脱离他的权下，自己立王。约兰率领所有的战车往撒益去，夜间起来，攻打围困他的以东人和车兵长；犹大兵就逃跑，各回各家去了。这样，以东人背叛犹大，脱离他的权下，直到今日。那时立拿人也背叛了。

耶和华对她说：“两国在你腹内；两族要从你身上出来。这族必强于那族；将来大的要服侍小的。”

又在以东全地设立防营，以东人就都归服大卫。大卫无论往哪里去，耶和华都使他得胜。

大卫王将这些器皿，并从各国夺来的金银，就是从以东、摩押、亚扪、非利士、亚玛力人所夺来的，都分别为圣献给耶和华。洗鲁雅的儿子亚比筛在盐谷击杀了以东一万八千人。大卫在以东地设立防营，以东人就都归服他。大卫无论往哪里去，耶和华都使他得胜。

这样，以东人背叛犹大，脱离他的权下，直到今日。那时，立拿人也背叛了，因为约兰离弃耶和华他列祖的神。

亚玛谢壮起胆来，率领他的民到盐谷，杀了西珥人一万。犹大人又生擒了一万带到山崖上，从那里把他们扔下去，以致他们都摔碎了。

摩押是我的沐浴盆；我要向以东抛鞋。非利士啊，你还能因我欢呼吗？

“在锡安山必有逃脱的人，那山也必成圣；雅各家必得原有的产业。雅各家必成为大火；约瑟家必为火焰；以扫家必如碎秸；火必将他烧着吞灭。以扫家必无余剩的。”这是耶和华说的。“南地的人必得以扫山；高原的人必得非利士地，也得以法莲地和撒玛利亚地；便雅悯人必得基列。在迦南人中被掳的以色列众人必得地直到撒勒法；在西法拉中被掳的耶路撒冷人必得南地的城邑。必有拯救者上到锡安山，审判以扫山；国度就归耶和华了。”

因为以东人又来攻击犹大，掳掠子民。

先前大卫攻击以东，元帅约押上去葬埋阵亡的人，将以东的男丁都杀了。约押和以色列众人在以东住了六个月，直到将以东的男丁尽都剪除。那时哈达还是幼童；他和他父亲的臣仆，几个以东人逃往埃及。

约兰年间，以东人背叛犹大，脱离他的权下，自己立王。

所打发的人回到雅各那里，说：“我们到了你哥哥以扫那里，他带着四百人，正迎着你来。”

你打败了以东人就心高气傲，你以此为荣耀，在家里安居就罢了，为何要惹祸，使自己和犹大国一同败亡呢？”

亚玛谢在盐谷杀了以东人一万，又攻取了西拉，改名叫约帖，直到今日。
