Kings shall be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers. They will bow down to you with their faces to the earth, and lick the dust of your feet. Then you will know that I am Yahweh; and those who wait for me shall not be disappointed.”

it was said to her,“ The elder will serve the younger.”

Yahweh says:“ The labor of Egypt, and the merchandise of Ethiopia, and the Sabeans, men of stature, will come over to you, and they will be yours. They will go after you. They shall come over in chains. They will bow down to you. They will make supplication to you:‘ Surely God is in you; and there is no one else. There is no other god.

He said,“ Canaan is cursed. He will be a servant of servants to his brothers.”He said,“ Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Shem. Let Canaan be his servant.

Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on David’s throne, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of Yahweh of Armies will perform this.

that I will bless you greatly, and I will multiply your offspring greatly like the stars of the heavens, and like the sand which is on the seashore. Your offspring will possess the gate of his enemies.All the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring, because you have obeyed my voice.’”

The children struggled together within her. She said,“ If it is like this, why do I live?” She went to inquire of Yahweh.Yahweh said to her,“ Two nations are in your womb. Two peoples will be separated from your body. The one people will be stronger than the other people. The elder will serve the younger.”

Isaac answered Esau,“ Behold, I have made him your lord, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants. I have sustained him with grain and new wine. What then will I do for you, my son?”

Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? Who is this who is glorious in his clothing, marching in the greatness of his strength?“ It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”Why is your clothing red, and your garments like him who treads in the wine vat?“ I have trodden the wine press alone. Of the peoples, no one was with me. Yes, I trod them in my anger and trampled them in my wrath. Their lifeblood is sprinkled on my garments, and I have stained all my clothing.For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed has come.I looked, and there was no one to help; and I wondered that there was no one to uphold. Therefore my own arm brought salvation to me. My own wrath upheld me.I trod down the peoples in my anger and made them drunk in my wrath. I poured their lifeblood out on the earth.”

For when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the army had gone up to bury the slain, and had struck every male in Edom( for Joab and all Israel remained there six months, until he had cut off every male in Edom);

After this, David struck the Philistines and subdued them; and David took the bridle of the mother city out of the hand of the Philistines.He struck Moab, and measured them with the line, making them to lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death, and one full line to keep alive. The Moabites became servants to David, and brought tribute.David struck also Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his dominion at the River.David took from him one thousand seven hundred horsemen and twenty thousand footmen. David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for one hundred chariots.When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck twenty two thousand men of the Syrians.Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought tribute. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went.David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.From Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took a great quantity of bronze.When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had struck all the army of Hadadezer,then Toi sent Joram his son to king David, to greet him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him; for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. Joram brought with him vessels of silver, vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze.King David also dedicated these to Yahweh, with the silver and gold that he dedicated of all the nations which he subdued;of Syria, of Moab, of the children of Ammon, of the Philistines, of Amalek, and of the plunder of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.David earned a reputation when he returned from striking down eighteen thousand men of the Syrians in the Valley of Salt.He put garrisons in Edom. Throughout all Edom, he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became servants to David. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went.David reigned over all Israel; and David executed justice and righteousness for all his people.Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army, Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder,Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were priests, Seraiah was scribe,Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and David’s sons were chief ministers.

How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? How shall I defy whom Yahweh has not defied?

Yahweh, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, says to him whom man despises, to him whom the nation abhors, to a servant of rulers:“ Kings shall see and rise up, princes, and they shall worship, because of Yahweh who is faithful, even the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

“ In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, nor will its sovereignty be left to another people; but it will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.Because you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to the king what will happen hereafter. The dream is certain, and its interpretation sure.”

After this, the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.David said,“ I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun their lord,“ Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Hasn’t David sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved off one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.When they told David this, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said,“ Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”When the children of Ammon saw that they had become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob, and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with one thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.When David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the army of the mighty men.The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate. The Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.He said,“ If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.Be courageous, and let’s be strong for our people, and for the cities of our God; and may Yahweh do what seems good to him.”So Joab and the people who were with him came near to the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.Hadadezer sent, and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River: and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the army of Hadadezer at their head.David was told that; and he gathered all Israel together, passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. The Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach the captain of their army, so that he died there.When all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the children of Ammon any more.

Amaziah took courage, and led his people out, and went to the Valley of Salt, and struck ten thousand of the children of Seir.The children of Judah carried away ten thousand alive, and brought them to the top of the rock, and threw them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were broken in pieces.But the men of the army whom Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell on the cities of Judah, from Samaria even to Beth Horon, and struck of them three thousand, and took much plunder.Now after Amaziah had come from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense to them.

for behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and behold, your sheaves came around, and bowed down to my sheaf.”

Jacob said,“ Swear to me first.” He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Jacob.

“ Yet I have set my King on my holy hill of Zion.”I will tell of the decree: Yahweh said to me,“ You are my son. Today I have become your father.Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance, the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession.You shall break them with a rod of iron. You shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

“ I have loved you,” says Yahweh. Yet you say,“ How have you loved us?”“ Wasn’t Esau Jacob’s brother?” says Yahweh,“ Yet I loved Jacob;but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.”Whereas Edom says,“ We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places;” Yahweh of Armies says,“ They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them‘ The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.”Your eyes will see, and you will say,“ Yahweh is great— even beyond the border of Israel!”

He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth.

‘ Behold, the people that has come out of Egypt covers the surface of the earth. Now, come curse me them. Perhaps I shall be able to fight against them, and shall drive them out.’”God said to Balaam,“ You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.”

God, you have rejected us. You have broken us down. You have been angry. Restore us, again.You have made the land tremble. You have torn it. Mend its fractures, for it quakes.You have shown your people hard things. You have made us drink the wine that makes us stagger.You have given a banner to those who fear you, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.So that your beloved may be delivered, save with your right hand, and answer us.God has spoken from his sanctuary:“ I will triumph. I will divide Shechem, and measure out the valley of Succoth.Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine. Ephraim also is the defense of my head. Judah is my scepter.Moab is my wash basin. I will throw my sandal on Edom. I shout in triumph over Philistia.”Who will bring me into the strong city? Who has led me to Edom?Haven’t you, God, rejected us? You don’t go out with our armies, God.Give us help against the adversary, for the help of man is vain.Through God we will do valiantly, for it is he who will tread down our adversaries.

There was no king in Edom. A deputy ruled.

“ Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies. Your father’s sons will bow down before you.Judah is a lion’s cub. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down, he crouched as a lion, as a lioness. Who will rouse him up?The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. To him will the obedience of the peoples be.

For Judah prevailed above his brothers, and from him came the prince; but the birthright was Joseph’s)—

Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt. They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.

I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the insults of the children of Ammon, with which they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border.Therefore as I live, says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, surely Moab will be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and salt pits, and a perpetual desolation. The remnant of my people will plunder them, and the survivors of my nation will inherit them.

He has on his garment and on his thigh a name written,“ KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

“ The King will answer them,‘ Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

“ Then he will answer them, saying,‘ Most certainly I tell you, because you didn’t do it to one of the least of these, you didn’t do it to me.’
