‘ He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?’“ Blessed is he who blesses you, And cursed is he who curses you.”

I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Kings shall be your foster fathers, And their queens your nursing mothers; They shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth, And lick up the dust of your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord, For they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me.”

it was said to her,“ The older shall serve the younger.”

Thus says the Lord:“ The labor of Egypt and merchandise of Cush And of the Sabeans, men of stature, Shall come over to you, and they shall be yours; They shall walk behind you, They shall come over in chains; And they shall bow down to you. They will make supplication to you, saying,‘ surely God is in you, And there is no other; There is no other God.’”

Then he said:“ Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants He shall be to his brethren.”And he said:“ Blessed be the Lord, The God of Shem, And may Canaan be his servant.

Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

But the children struggled together within her; and she said,“ If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the Lord.And the Lord said to her:“ Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”

Then Isaac answered and said to Esau,“ Indeed I have made him your master, and all his brethren I have given to him as servants; with grain and wine I have sustained him. What shall I do now for you, my son?”

Who is this who comes from Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah, This One who is glorious in His apparel, Traveling in the greatness of His strength?—“ I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”Why is Your apparel red, And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?“ I have trodden the winepress alone, And from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, And trampled them in My fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, And I have stained all My robes.For the day of vengeance is in My heart, And the year of My redeemed has come.I looked, but there was no one to help, And I wondered That there was no one to uphold; Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; And My own fury, it sustained Me.I have trodden down the peoples in My anger, Made them drunk in My fury, And brought down their strength to the earth.”

For it happened, when David was in Edom, and Joab the commander of the army had gone up to bury the slain, after he had killed every male in Edom( because for six months Joab remained there with all Israel, until he had cut down every male in Edom),

After this it came to pass that David attacked the Philistines and subdued them. And David took Metheg Ammah from the hand of the Philistines.Then he defeated Moab. Forcing them down to the ground, he measured them off with a line. With two lines he measured off those to be put to death, and with one full line those to be kept alive. So the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought tribute.David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his territory at the River Euphrates.David took from him one thousand chariots, seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. Also David hamstrung all the chariot horses, except that he spared enough of them for one hundred chariots.When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand of the Syrians.Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought tribute. So the Lord preserved David wherever he went.And David took the shields of gold that had belonged to the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.Also from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took a large amount of bronze.When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had defeated all the army of Hadadezer,then Toi sent Joram his son to King David, to greet him and bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him( for Hadadezer had been at war with Toi); and Joram brought with him articles of silver, articles of gold, and articles of bronze.King David also dedicated these to the Lord, along with the silver and gold that he had dedicated from all the nations which he had subdued—from Syria, from Moab, from the people of Ammon, from the Philistines, from Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah.And David made himself a name when he returned from killing eighteen thousand Syrians in the Valley of Salt.He also put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. And the Lord preserved David wherever he went.So David reigned over all Israel; and David administered judgment and justice to all his people.Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests; Seraiah was the scribe;Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief ministers.

“ How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? And how shall I denounce whom the Lord has not denounced?

Thus says the Lord, The Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One, To Him whom man despises, To Him whom the nation abhors, To the Servant of rulers:“ Kings shall see and arise, Princes also shall worship, Because of the Lord who is faithful, The Holy One of Israel; And He has chosen You.”

And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold— the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure.”

It happened after this that the king of the people of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.Then David said,“ I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by the hand of his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the people of Ammon.And the princes of the people of Ammon said to Hanun their Lord,“ Do you think that David really honors your father because he has sent comforters to you? Has David not rather sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”Therefore Hanun took David’s servants, shaved off half of their beards, cut off their garments in the middle, at their buttocks, and sent them away.When they told David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said,“ Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”When the people of Ammon saw that they had made themselves repulsive to David, the people of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand foot soldiers; and from the king of Maacah one thousand men, and from Ish-Tob twelve thousand men.Now when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.Then the people of Ammon came out and put themselves in battle array at the entrance of the gate. And the Syrians of Zoba, Beth Rehob, Ish-Tob, and Maacah were by themselves in the field.When Joab saw that the battle line was against him before and behind, he chose some of Israel’s best and put them in battle array against the Syrians.And the rest of the people he put under the command of Abishai his brother, that he might set them in battle array against the people of Ammon.Then he said,“ If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the people of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.Be of good courage, and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. And may the Lord do what is good in His sight.”So Joab and the people who were with him drew near for the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.When the people of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fleeing, they also fled before Abishai, and entered the city. So Joab returned from the people of Ammon and went to Jerusalem.When the Syrians saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they gathered together.Then Hadadezer sent and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River, and they came to Helam. And Shobach the commander of Hadadezer’s army went before them.When it was told David, he gathered all Israel, crossed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in battle array against David and fought with him.Then the Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers and forty thousand horsemen of the Syrians, and struck Shobach the commander of their army, who died there.And when all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the people of Ammon anymore.

Then Amaziah strengthened himself, and leading his people, he went to the Valley of Salt and killed ten thousand of the people of Seir.Also the children of Judah took captive ten thousand alive, brought them to the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were dashed in pieces.But as for the soldiers of the army which Amaziah had discharged, so that they would not go with him to battle, they raided the cities of Judah from Samaria to Beth Horon, killed three thousand in them, and took much spoil.Now it was so, after Amaziah came from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the people of Seir, set them up to be his gods, and bowed down before them and burned incense to them.

There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf.”

Then Jacob said,“ Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.

“ Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.”“ I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me,‘ You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession.You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’”

“ I have loved you,” says the Lord.“ Yet you say,‘ In what way have You loved us?’ Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” Says the Lord.“ Yet Jacob I have loved;But Esau I have hated, And laid waste his mountains and his heritage For the jackals of the wilderness.”Even though Edom has said,“ We have been impoverished, But we will return and build the desolate places,” Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ They may build, but I will throw down; They shall be called the Territory of Wickedness, And the people against whom the Lord will have indignation forever.Your eyes shall see, And you shall say,‘ The Lord is magnified beyond the border of Israel.’

He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.

‘ Look, a people has come out of Egypt, and they cover the face of the earth. Come now, curse them for me; perhaps I shall be able to overpower them and drive them out.’”And God said to Balaam,“ You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.”

O God, You have cast us off; You have broken us down; You have been displeased; Oh, restore us again!You have made the earth tremble; You have broken it; Heal its breaches, for it is shaking.You have shown Your people hard things; You have made us drink the wine of confusion.You have given a banner to those who fear You, That it may be displayed because of the truth. SelahThat Your beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and hear me.God has spoken in His holiness:“ I will rejoice; I will divide Shechem And measure out the Valley of Succoth.Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is the helmet for My head; Judah is My lawgiver.Moab is My washpot; Over Edom I will cast My shoe; Philistia, shout in triumph because of Me.”Who will bring me to the strong city? Who will lead me to Edom?Is it not You, O God, who cast us off? And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies?Give us help from trouble, For the help of man is useless.Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies.

There was then no king in Edom, only a deputy of the king.

“ Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father’s children shall bow down before you.Judah is a lion’s whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.

yet Judah prevailed over his brothers, and from him came a ruler, although the birthright was Joseph’s—

So Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.

“ I have heard the reproach of Moab, And the insults of the people of Ammon, With which they have reproached My people, And made arrogant threats against their borders.Therefore, as I live,” Says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,“ Surely Moab shall be like Sodom, And the people of Ammon like Gomorrah— Overrun with weeds and saltpits, And a perpetual desolation. The residue of My people shall plunder them, And the remnant of My people shall possess them.”

And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

And the King will answer and say to them,‘ Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Then He will answer them, saying,‘ Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
