He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed[ is] he that blesseth thee, and cursed[ is] he that curseth thee.

Of the increase of[ his] government and peace[ there shall be] no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which[ is] upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If[ it be] so, why[ am] I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD.And the LORD said unto her, Two nations[ are] in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and[ the one] people shall be stronger than[ the other] people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?

Who[ is] this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this[ that is] glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.Wherefore[ art thou] red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people[ there was] none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.For the day of vengeance[ is] in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.And I looked, and[ there was] none to help; and I wondered that[ there was] none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

For it came to pass, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the host was gone up to bury the slain, after he had smitten every male in Edom;( For six months did Joab remain there with all Israel, until he had cut off every male in Edom:)

And after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took Methegammah out of the hand of the Philistines.And he smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And[ so] the Moabites became David’s servants,[ and] brought gifts.David smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates.And David took from him a thousand[ chariots], and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David houghed all the chariot[ horses], but reserved of them[ for] an hundred chariots.And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David,[ and] brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceeding much brass.When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,Then Toi sent Joram his son unto king David, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And[ Joram] brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:Which also king David did dedicate unto the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued;Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.And David gat[ him] a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt,[ being] eighteen thousand[ men].And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David’s servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people.And Joab the son of Zeruiah[ was] over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud[ was] recorder;And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar,[ were] the priests; and Seraiah[ was] the scribe;And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada[ was over] both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief rulers.

How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy,[ whom] the LORD hath not defied?

Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel,[ and] his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful,[ and] the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.

And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people,[ but] it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream[ is] certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David[ rather] sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle,[ even] to their buttocks, and sent them away.When they told[ it] unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and[ then] return.And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Bethrehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ishtob twelve thousand men.And when David heard of[ it], he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ishtob, and Maacah,[ were] by themselves in the field.When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice[ men] of Israel, and put[ them] in array against the Syrians:And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put[ them] in array against the children of Ammon.And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.And Joab drew nigh, and the people that[ were] with him, unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves together.And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that[ were] beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer[ went] before them.And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew[ the men of] seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.And when all the kings[ that were] servants to Hadarezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.

And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.And[ other] ten thousand[ left] alive did the children of Judah carry away captive, and brought them unto the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, that they all were broken in pieces.But the soldiers of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Bethhoron, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoil.Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up[ to be] his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.

For, behold, we[ were] binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.

And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou[ art] my Son; this day have I begotten thee.Ask of me, and I shall give[ thee] the heathen[ for] thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth[ for] thy possession.Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us?[ Was] not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever.And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The LORD will be magnified from the border of Israel.

He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.

Behold,[ there is] a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they[ are] blessed.

O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.That thy beloved may be delivered; save[ with] thy right hand, and hear me.God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.Gilead[ is] mine, and Manasseh[ is] mine; Ephraim also[ is] the strength of mine head; Judah[ is] my lawgiver;Moab[ is] my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.Who will bring me[ into] the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?[ Wilt] not thou, O God,[ which] hadst cast us off? and[ thou], O God,[ which] didst not go out with our armies?Give us help from trouble: for vain[ is] the help of man.Through God we shall do valiantly: for he[ it is that] shall tread down our enemies.

[ There was] then no king in Edom: a deputy[ was] king.

Judah, thou[ art he] whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand[ shall be] in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee.Judah[ is] a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him[ shall] the gathering of the people[ be].

For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him[ came] the chief ruler; but the birthright[ was] Joseph’s:)

And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.

I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified[ themselves] against their border.Therefore[ as] I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah,[ even] the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.

And he hath on[ his] vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done[ it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done[ it] unto me.

Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did[ it] not to one of the least of these, ye did[ it] not to me.
