All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.Instead, they were longing for a better country— a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. (niv)

The Lord had said to Abram,“ Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.“ I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. (niv)

Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong;for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this:He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. (niv)

He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him. (niv)

The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.” (niv)

Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. (niv)

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. (niv)

The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. (niv)

You will be faithful to Jacob, and show love to Abraham, as you pledged on oath to our ancestors in days long ago. (niv)

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. (niv)

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me— put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. (niv)

Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. (niv)
