就在那时候，耶和华与亚伯兰立约说：“我已经把这地赐给你的后裔了，就是从埃及河直到幼发拉底河之地；

说：“耶和华说：‘我指着自己起誓，你既然作了这事，没有留下你的儿子、你的独生子，我必定赐福给你，必使你的后裔繁多，像天上的星，海边的沙；你的后裔必占领仇敌的城门。地上万国都要因你的后裔得福，因为你听从了我的话。’”

就是与亚伯拉罕所立的约，向以撒所起的誓。

因着信，他在应许之地寄居，好像是在异乡，与承受同样应许的以撒、雅各一样住在帐棚里。

你起来，纵横走遍这地，因为我必把这地赐给你。”

这些人都是存着信心死了的，还没有得着所应许的，只不过是从远处看见，就表示欢迎，又承认他们在世上是异乡人，是客旅。因为说这样话的人，是表明他们在寻求一个家乡。如果他们怀念已经离开了的地方，还有可以回去的机会。但是现在他们所向往的，是一个更美的、在天上的家乡。所以，神不以他们称他为神而觉得羞耻；因为他已经为他们预备了一座城。

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要离开本地、本族、父家，到我指示你的地方去。我必使你成为大国，赐福给你，使你的名为大，你也必使别人得福，

不要因作恶的人心怀不平，不要因犯罪的人产生嫉妒。（本节在《马索拉文本》包括细字标题）因为他们好像草快要枯干，像即将凋萎的青草。你要倚靠耶和华，并要行善；你要住在地上，以信实为粮食。你要以耶和华为乐，他就把你心里所求的赐给你。你要把你的道路交托耶和华，并倚靠他，他就必成全。他必使你的公义好像光发出，使你的公正如日中天。

他拥有羊群、牛群和很多仆人，非利士人就嫉妒他。

我要把你现在寄居的地，就是迦南全地，赐给你和你的后裔，作永远的产业，我也要作他们的神。”

照样，神定意向那些承受应许的人，更清楚地表明他的旨意是不更改的，就用起誓作保证。

我要教导你，指示你应走的路；我要劝戒你，我的眼睛看顾你。

耶和华与约瑟同在，约瑟就事事顺利，住在他主人埃及人的家里。

耶和华啊！求你垂听我的祷告，留心听我的呼求；我流泪，求你不要缄默；因为我在你面前是客旅，是寄居的，像我所有的祖先一样。

你必向雅各显诚实，向亚伯拉罕施慈爱，就是古时，你起誓应许我们列祖的。

但是，耶和华与约瑟同在，向他施慈爱，使他得到监狱长的欢心。

以撒在那里耕种，那一年丰收百倍，耶和华实在赐福给他。

你从水中经过的时候，我必与你同在；你渡过江河的时候，水必不淹没你；你从火中行走的时候，必不会烧伤；火焰也不会在你身上烧起来。

你们在我身上所学习、所领受、所听见、所看见的，这些事你们都应当实行；那么，赐平安的神就必与你们同在。

你不要惧怕，因为我与你同在；我必把你的后裔从东方领回来，又从西方招聚你。
