“ The Lord, the God of heaven, who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying,‘ To your offspring I will give this land’— he will send his angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there.

“ The Lord, the God of heaven, took me away from my father’s family. He brought me out of my own land. He made me a promise. He said,‘ I will give this land to your family after you.’ The Lord will send his angel ahead of you. So you will be able to get a wife for my son from there.

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.

All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said,“ To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates—

“ See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since my Name is in him.If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you.My angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out.

You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.

Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self:‘ I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land I promised them, and it will be their inheritance forever.’”

“ In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.

That night the Lord appeared to him and said,“ I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.”

‘ Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of those who were twenty years old or more when they came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—

and said,“ I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.

The Lord had said to Abram,“ Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.“ I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land.The Lord appeared to Abram and said,“ To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

At that very hour there was a severe earthquake and a tenth of the city collapsed. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the survivors were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.

Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

‘ The Lord was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them on oath, so he slaughtered them in the wilderness.’

When the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites and Jebusites— the land he swore to your ancestors to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey— you are to observe this ceremony in this month:

The angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said,“ I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land I swore to give to your ancestors. I said,‘ I will never break my covenant with you,

By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.

Then the Lord said to him,“ This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said,‘ I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.”

He answered,“ I am a Hebrew and I worship the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.”

Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham.I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed,

He gave him no inheritance here, not even enough ground to set his foot on. But God promised him that he and his descendants after him would possess the land, even though at that time Abraham had no child.

Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers— to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob— and to their descendants after them.”

The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”

“ This is what Cyrus king of Persia says:“‘ The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah.
