My master made me promise him. He said,‘ I’m living in the land of the people of Canaan. But promise me that you won’t get a wife for my son from their daughters.

My master made me swear, saying,‘ You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell,

And my master made me take an oath. He said,‘ Do not allow my son to marry one of these local Canaanite women.

My master put me under this oath:‘ You will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites in whose land I live

My master made me swear, saying,‘ You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live;

Now my master made me swear, saying,‘ You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell;

And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:

My master put me under this oath:‘ You will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites in whose land I live

And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:

My master made me swear an oath. He said,‘ You must not acquire a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,

My master made me swear, saying,‘ You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,

After these things had been done, the leaders came to me and said,“ The people of Israel, including the priests and the Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the neighboring peoples with their detestable practices, like those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians and Amorites.They have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, and have mingled the holy race with the peoples around them. And the leaders and officials have led the way in this unfaithfulness.”When I heard this, I tore my tunic and cloak, pulled hair from my head and beard and sat down appalled.

He said to the senior servant in his household, the one in charge of all that he had,“ Put your hand under my thigh.I want you to swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac.”The servant asked him,“ What if the woman is unwilling to come back with me to this land? Shall I then take your son back to the country you came from?”“ Make sure that you do not take my son back there,” Abraham said.“ The Lord, the God of heaven, who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying,‘ To your offspring I will give this land’— he will send his angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there.If the woman is unwilling to come back with you, then you will be released from this oath of mine. Only do not take my son back there.”So the servant put his hand under the thigh of his master Abraham and swore an oath to him concerning this matter.

Then Rebekah said to Isaac,“ I’m disgusted with living because of these Hittite women. If Jacob takes a wife from among the women of this land, from Hittite women like these, my life will not be worth living.”
