Then food was served. But Abraham’s servant said,“ I don’t want to eat until I have told you why I have come.”“ All right,” Laban said,“ tell us.”

Then food was set before him, but he said,“ I will not eat until I have told you what I have to say.”“ Then tell us,” Laban said.

A meal was set before him, but he said,“ I will not eat until I have said what I have to say.” So Laban said,“ Please speak.”

When food was served, he said,“ I will not eat until I have said what I want to say.”“ Tell us,” Laban said.

Food was set before him to eat, but he said,“ I will not eat until I have told my message.” Laban said,“ Speak on.”

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart.Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free.

“ I will not go home; I will not let myself rest.I will not let my eyes sleep nor close my eyelids in slumberuntil I find a place to build a house for the Lord, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.”

If the masters are believers, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. Those slaves should work all the harder because their efforts are helping other believers who are well loved. Teach these things, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them.

I have not departed from his commands, but have treasured his words more than daily food.

Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom.

Meanwhile, the disciples were urging Jesus,“ Rabbi, eat something.”But Jesus replied,“ I have a kind of food you know nothing about.”“ Did someone bring him food while we were gone?” the disciples asked each other.Then Jesus explained:“ My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.

But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than working for ordinary people.
