於是他轉過來向着那女人，對西門說：「你看見這女人嗎？我進了你的家，你沒有給我水洗腳，但這女人用眼淚滴濕了我的腳，又用頭髮擦乾。

又有行善的名聲，就如養育兒女，收留外人，洗聖徒的腳，救濟遭難的人，竭力行各樣善事。

就離席站起來，脫了衣服，拿一條手巾束腰，隨後把水倒在盆裏，開始洗門徒的腳，並用束腰的手巾擦乾。到了西門‧彼得跟前，彼得對他說：「主啊，你洗我的腳嗎？」耶穌回答他說：「我所做的，你現在不知道，但以後會明白。」彼得對他說：「你絕對不可以洗我的腳！」耶穌回答他：「我若不洗你，你就與我無份了。」西門‧彼得對他說：「主啊，不僅是我的腳，連手和頭也要洗！」耶穌對他說：「凡洗過澡的人不需要再洗，只要把腳一洗，全身就乾淨了。你們是乾淨的，然而不都是乾淨的。」耶穌已知道要出賣他的是誰，因此說「你們不都是乾淨的」。耶穌洗完了他們的腳，就穿上衣服，又坐下，對他們說：「我為你們所做的，你們明白嗎？你們稱呼我老師，稱呼我主，你們說的不錯，我本來就是。我是你們的主，你們的老師，尚且洗你們的腳，你們也應當彼此洗腳。

亞比該起來叩拜，俯伏在地，說：「看哪，你的使女情願作婢女，為我主的僕人洗腳。」
