I want you to swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,

The Lord is the God of heaven and the God of earth. I want you to make a promise to me in his name. I’m living among the people of Canaan. But I want you to promise me that you won’t get a wife for my son from their daughters.

that I may make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell,

Swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not allow my son to marry one of these local Canaanite women.

For men indeed swear by a greater one, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.

“ Be careful to do all things that I have said to you; and don’t invoke the name of other gods or even let them be heard out of your mouth.

those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by Yahweh and also swear by Malcam,

Canaan became the father of Sidon( his firstborn), Heth,the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were spread abroad.The border of the Canaanites was from Sidon— as you go toward Gerar— to Gaza— as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim— to Lasha.

so that he who blesses himself in the earth will bless himself in the God of truth; and he who swears in the earth will swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hidden from my eyes.

“‘ You shall not swear by my name falsely, and profane the name of your God. I am Yahweh.

They said,“ We saw plainly that Yahweh was with you. We said,‘ Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let’s make a covenant with you,that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.’ You are now the blessed of Yahweh.”He made them a feast, and they ate and drank.They rose up some time in the morning, and swore an oath to one another. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
