By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise.

For we live before You as foreigners and temporary residents in Your presence as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.

I am a stranger on earth; do not hide Your commands from me.

Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

A man may father a hundred children and live many years. No matter how long he lives, if he is not satisfied by good things and does not even have a proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.

Also, they are afraid of heights and dangers on the road; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper loses its spring, and the caper berry has no effect; for man is headed to his eternal home, and mourners will walk around in the street;

They carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave at Machpelah in the field near Mamre, which Abraham had purchased as a burial site from Ephron the Hittite.

and the dust returns to the earth as it once was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires that war against you.

Jacob said to Pharaoh,“ My pilgrimage has lasted 130 years. My years have been few and hard, and they have not surpassed the years of my fathers during their pilgrimages.”

When they were few in number, very few indeed, and temporary residents in Canaan,wandering from nation to nation and from one kingdom to another,

You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground, since you were taken from it. For you are dust, and you will return to dust.”

Yes, I know that You will lead me to death— the place appointed for all who live.
