因著信，亞伯拉罕蒙召的時候，就順從出發，往他將要得為繼業的地方去。他出發的時候，還不知道往哪裡去。

於是亞伯拉罕清早起來，拿了餅和一皮袋水，交給夏甲，放在她的肩膀上，又把孩子交給了她，然後送她走。她就走了，在比爾-謝巴的曠野中漂流。

那靠著你心意堅定的，你會守護他完全平安，因為他依靠你。你們當依靠耶和華，直到永遠，因為神耶和華是永恆的磐石！

彼得就對耶穌說：「看，我們捨棄一切跟從了你！」耶穌說：「我確實地告訴你們：無論誰為我的緣故、為福音的緣故而捨棄房屋，或兄弟，或姐妹，或母親，或父親，或兒女，或田產，都必定在今世得到百倍，就是房屋、兄弟、姐妹、母親、兒女和田產，也會有逼迫；但在來世得到永恆的生命。不過許多在前的，將要在後；許多在後的，將要在前。」

「那愛父親或母親過於愛我的，不配屬於我；那愛兒子或女兒過於愛我的，不配屬於我；

凡是你手當做的，你都當極力去做；因為在你必去的陰間沒有工作，沒有籌劃，沒有知識，也沒有智慧。

因著信，亞伯拉罕在受考驗的時候，獻上了以撒；這位領受了各樣應許的人，獻上了自己的獨生兒子——關於這兒子，神曾經說過：「從以撒生的，將被稱為你的後裔。」亞伯拉罕認為，神真的能使人從死人中復活。故此，用比喻來說，他真的從死人中得回了以撒。

於是就在那一天，亞伯拉罕照著神向他所說的，叫來他的兒子以實瑪利和家中所有的男子，無論是在他家裡出生的，還是用銀子買來的，都割去了他們肉體上的包皮。
