and said,“‘ I solemnly swear by my own name,’ decrees the LORD,‘ that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,

and said,“‘ I have sworn by myself,’ says Yahweh,‘ because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son,

就是祂對我們的先祖亞伯拉罕所起的誓，

就是祂與亞伯拉罕所立的約，向以撒所起的誓。

當初，上帝向亞伯拉罕許下諾言的時候，因為沒有比自己更大的可以憑著起誓，就憑自己起誓說：「我必賜福給你，使你子孫眾多。」

因為我已憑自己起誓，波斯拉必淪為廢墟，令人驚懼，被人嘲笑和咒詛。它周圍的村鎮要永遠荒涼。這是耶和華說的。」

我必使你成為大國，我必賜福給你，使你聲名遠播。你必成為別人的祝福。

上帝應許將世界賜給亞伯拉罕和他的後裔，不是因為亞伯拉罕遵行了律法，而是因為他因信而成了義人。如果只有遵行律法的人才可以承受應許，信心就沒有價值，上帝的應許也就落了空。

萬軍之耶和華憑自己起誓說：「我要使敵人如蝗蟲一樣鋪天蓋地而來，佔據你們的家園，歡呼勝利。」

我憑自己起誓，我口中的話真實可靠，絕不更改，『萬膝必向我跪拜，萬口必起誓效忠於我。』

萬軍之上帝——主耶和華憑自己起誓：「我憎惡雅各的驕傲，厭棄他的城堡。我要把城和城中的一切都交給敵人。」
