Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son.

Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh Nissi( which means“ the Lord is my banner”).

“ God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.

And Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and named it Yahweh Shalom( which means“ the Lord is peace”). The altar remains in Ophrah in the land of the clan of Abiezer to this day.

Our ancestors trusted in you, and you rescued them.They cried out to you and were saved. They trusted in you and were never disgraced.

Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said,“ You are the God who sees me.” She also said,“ Have I truly seen the One who sees me?”So that well was named Beer lahai roi( which means“ well of the Living One who sees me”). It can still be found between Kadesh and Bered.

He named that place Bethel( which means“ house of God”), although it was previously called Luz.

Samuel then took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer( which means“ the stone of help”), for he said,“ Up to this point the Lord has helped us!”

We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it.In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead.And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.

He commanded that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual.Then he ordered some of the strongest men of his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace.So they tied them up and threw them into the furnace, fully dressed in their pants, turbans, robes, and other garments.And because the king, in his anger, had demanded such a hot fire in the furnace, the flames killed the soldiers as they threw the three men in.So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, securely tied, fell into the roaring flames.But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers,“ Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?”“ Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did,” they replied.“ Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted.“ I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god!”

Jacob named the place Peniel( which means“ face of God”), for he said,“ I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been spared.”

“ Indeed, the Lord will give justice to his people, and he will change his mind about his servants, when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave or free.

Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.

So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

Writhe and groan like a woman in labor, you people of Jerusalem, for now you must leave this city to live in the open country. You will soon be sent in exile to distant Babylon. But the Lord will rescue you there; he will redeem you from the grip of your enemies.
