But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking,

But Sarah saw Ishmael making fun of Isaac. Ishmael was the son Hagar had by Abraham. Hagar was Sarah’s Egyptian slave.

But Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, laughing.

But Sarah saw the son mocking— the one Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham.

Now Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking Isaac.

And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne unto Abraham, mocking.

But Sarah saw the son mocking— the one Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham.

But Sarah noticed the son of Hagar the Egyptian– the son whom Hagar had borne to Abraham– mocking.

So Hagar gave Abram a son, and Abram named him Ishmael.

But you are now being persecuted by those who want you to keep the law, just as Ishmael, the child born by human effort, persecuted Isaac, the child born by the power of the Spirit.

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not been able to bear children for him. But she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar.

Sanballat was very angry when he learned that we were rebuilding the wall. He flew into a rage and mocked the Jews,saying in front of his friends and the Samarian army officers,“ What does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they’re doing? Do they think they can build the wall in a single day by just offering a few sacrifices? Do they actually think they can make something of stones from a rubbish heap— and charred ones at that?”Tobiah the Ammonite, who was standing beside him, remarked,“ That stone wall would collapse if even a fox walked along the top of it!”Then I prayed,“ Hear us, our God, for we are being mocked. May their scoffing fall back on their own heads, and may they themselves become captives in a foreign land!Do not ignore their guilt. Do not blot out their sins, for they have provoked you to anger here in front of the builders.”

Their taunts break my bones. They scoff,“ Where is this God of yours?”

The runners went from town to town throughout Ephraim and Manasseh and as far as the territory of Zebulun. But most of the people just laughed at the runners and made fun of them.

The Scriptures say that Abraham had two sons, one from his slave wife and one from his freeborn wife.

In the midst of her sadness and wandering, Jerusalem remembers her ancient splendor. But now she has fallen to her enemy, and there is no one to help her. Her enemy struck her down and laughed as she fell.

You let our neighbors mock us. We are an object of scorn and derision to those around us.You have made us the butt of their jokes; they shake their heads at us in scorn.

But I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all!

Even children are known by the way they act, whether their conduct is pure, and whether it is right.

But the people mocked these messengers of God and despised their words. They scoffed at the prophets until the Lord’s anger could no longer be restrained and nothing could be done.

Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons.

As for Ishmael, I will bless him also, just as you have asked. I will make him extremely fruitful and multiply his descendants. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

Elisha left Jericho and went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, a group of boys from the town began mocking and making fun of him.“ Go away, baldy!” they chanted.“ Go away, baldy!”Elisha turned around and looked at them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty two of them.

So Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian servant and gave her to Abram as a wife.( This happened ten years after Abram had settled in the land of Canaan.)So Abram had sexual relations with Hagar, and she became pregnant. But when Hagar knew she was pregnant, she began to treat her mistress, Sarai, with contempt.Then Sarai said to Abram,“ This is all your fault! I put my servant into your arms, but now that she’s pregnant she treats me with contempt. The Lord will show who’s wrong— you or me!”Abram replied,“ Look, she is your servant, so deal with her as you see fit.” Then Sarai treated Hagar so harshly that she finally ran away.

“ But now I am mocked by people younger than I, by young men whose fathers are not worthy to run with my sheepdogs.
