論到我的約，我是要同以撒堅立的；以撒就是明年這時節撒拉所要給你生下來的。』

上帝說：『不，是你妻子撒拉必給你生個兒子；你要給他起名叫以撒；我要同他堅立我的約，做他以後的苗裔永遠的約。

在永恆主、還有奇難事麼？到了所定的日期，在婦人懷孕滿期的時候，我必回到你這裏來，撒拉必生個兒子。』

上帝給了他割禮的約；這樣，亞伯拉罕生了以撒，第八天就給他行割禮；以撒生雅各，雅各生了十二位族長。

那位說：『在婦人懷孕滿期的時候，我一定要回到你這裏來。看吧，你妻子撒拉必生個兒子。』撒拉在後邊帳棚聽着呢。

因為上帝所說的：『明年大約這時候我要來，撒拉必生個兒子』這句話、就是一句應許的話。

這些日子以後、他的妻子以利沙伯受了孕，掩藏了五個月，說：『主在眷顧的日子這樣待我，要把我在人間的恥辱除掉。』

況且你看，你的親戚以利沙伯、在她老年時期也竟孕受男兒了；並且這已是她的第六個月了，她那素來稱為不能生育的！

以利沙說：『到了日期，約在婦人懷孕滿期的時候、你就要抱兒子了。』婦人說：『我主神人哪，不會的；你別和婢女開玩笑啦。』那婦人果然懷孕，到了日期，約在婦人懷孕滿期的時候、正是以利沙所對她說過的，她就生了一個兒子。
