不久，伊丽莎白果然怀了孕，她有五个月闭门不出。她说：“主真是眷顾我，除掉了我不生育的羞耻。”

看啊，你的亲戚伊丽莎白年纪老迈，一向不能生育，现在已经怀男胎六个月了。

以利沙对她说：“明年这时候，你必抱一个儿子。”她说：“上帝的仆人，我主啊，不要骗我。”那妇人果然怀了孕，在第二年的那时候生了一个儿子，应验了以利沙对她说的话。
