So Abraham got up early the next morning, prepared food and a container of water, and strapped them on Hagar’s shoulders. Then he sent her away with their son, and she wandered aimlessly in the wilderness of Beersheba.

So Jacob set out for Egypt with all his possessions. And when he came to Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac.

A loud and cheerful greeting early in the morning will be taken as a curse!

When he arrived there, a man from the area noticed him wandering around the countryside.“ What are you looking for?” he asked.

But before he died, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them off to a land in the east, away from Isaac.

So Isaac named the well Shibah( which means“ oath”). And to this day the town that grew up there is called Beersheba( which means“ well of the oath”).

The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise. But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of his promise.These two women serve as an illustration of God’s two covenants. The first woman, Hagar, represents Mount Sinai where people received the law that enslaved them.And now Jerusalem is just like Mount Sinai in Arabia, because she and her children live in slavery to the law.

The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about.

The farms of Heshbon are abandoned; the vineyards at Sibmah are deserted. The rulers of the nations have broken down Moab— that beautiful grapevine. Its tendrils spread north as far as the town of Jazer and trailed eastward into the wilderness. Its shoots reached so far west that they crossed over the Dead Sea.

Then he named the place Beersheba( which means“ well of the oath”), because that was where they had sworn the oath.

Then Abraham planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and there he worshiped the Lord, the Eternal God.

Abraham got up early that morning and hurried out to the place where he had stood in the Lord’s presence.

A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever.

I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands.

The angel of the Lord found Hagar beside a spring of water in the wilderness, along the road to Shur.

Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there.

Then they returned to the servants and traveled back to Beersheba, where Abraham continued to live.

Then they ate their meal, and the servant and the men with him stayed there overnight. But early the next morning, Abraham’s servant said,“ Send me back to my master.”
